Burglary/Theft

East Rutherford

On Feb. 3, at approximately 12:43 p.m., East Rutherford Councilman George Perry reported a break-in at a borough-owned vacant building on 125 Park Ave. The perpetrators had pried off the padlocked front door latch and exited the building from the rear. Two shovels and a light tower, totaling an estimated $600 in value, were reported missing.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 12:07 p.m., a Florida resident reported that his black 2005 Chrysler 300 had been broken into while parked in a lot at 300 Route 3 East. Paperwork containing the victim’s personal information was listed as missing.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 9:05 a.m., a Queens man reported that his work van had been broken into while parked at 27 Lincoln Pl. overnight. Missing were between $2,000 and $3,000 worth of tools.

Lyndhurst

On Feb. 6, at approximately 8:15 p.m., an off duty officer witnessed a man kick in a door and enter 601 Riverside Ave. Upon exiting the building, the officer subdued 22-year-old John Barton who had walked out carrying a bottle of wine. Barton disputed that he was given permission to enter the building, but upon further investigation, it was revealed that information was false. He was charged with burglary and theft. Bail was set at $10,000 with a 10 percent option, which Barton was able to post.

On Feb. 6, at approximately 6:06 p.m., a complainant parked at King’s Court, located at 525 Riverside Ave., reported that her vehicle had been broken into by way of a punched door lock. Taken from the vehicle was a GPS unit, laptop computer and various other personal items including a Coach bag and Louis Vuitton wallet. All told, $3,700 in merchandise including $100 in cash was stolen.

On Feb. 5, at approximately 8 p.m., a complainant parked on the 200-block of Post Avenue reported a theft from a 2004 Honda Element. Taken from the vehicle was a GPS unit. Entry was gained by shattering the front passenger’s side window.

On Feb. 5, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a complainant parked on the 400-block of Page Avenue reported the theft of a GPS unit from a vehicle.

Rutherford

On Feb. 7, at approximately 2:32 p.m., an employee of the Rutherford Recreation Department reported a plaque from the monument at Tryon Field was missing.

On Feb. 7, at approximately 12:14 p.m., a complainant reported that someone stole several items of his clothing from the laundry room of his apartment sometime between 3:30 and 11 a.m. The victim reported he left his clothes on a table in the laundry room and when he returned several hours later, they were gone.

North Arlington

On Feb. 7, at approximately 8:10 a.m., a victim reported someone entered a 1999 Jeep Cherokee parked on Bernice Road off of Schuyler Avenue and stole a Silver Dell laptop on the floor of the vehicle, valued at $1,500.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 5:16 p.m., officers responded to Pulaski Drive on a report of a burglary. The victim reported leaving the house at 9:45 a.m. and, upon returning home at 5:10 p.m., noticed the window on the rear door was smashed in and the house was ransacked. Several items, including fine China, various jewelry items and a computer were stolen.

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 31, at approximately 11:10 p.m., an officer on patrol along Ridge Road witnessed two occupants of a vehicle at the Exxon Station, located at the corner of Ridge Road and Kingsland Avenue, emptying the contents of a cigar from the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the cigar, according to police was being prepared to roll a marijuana blunt. Subsequently, 19-year-old Sheri Louis of Belleville was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.

Rutherford

On Feb. 6, at approximately 1:56 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a male exit the rear of a residence on Ridge Road and get into a car. Suspecting a possible break-in, the officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and spoke with the driver, 21-year-old Theodore Annese of North Arlington. Annese was reportedly elusive in his answers, stating he was coming from his girlfriend’s house on Summit Avenue. The officer observed Annese repeatedly putting his hands in his coat pockets and ordered him to stop. When Annese did it again, the officer reached into Annese’s coat pocket and found a bag of marijuana. Annese was charged with possession of CDS.

Criminal Mischief

East Rutherford

On Feb. 4, at approximately 1:22 p.m., East Rutherford police responded to several reports of an intoxicated male spray painting in the Firemen’s Park on Paterson Avenue. Once on scene, officers spoke with a witness who observed 50-year-old Chris Janke employing a can of green spray paint to graffiti a retaining wall and nearby bushes. Police approached Mr. Janke, who appeared intoxicated, and noticed green paint on the fingertips of his right hand. Janke was arrested and later charged with desecration of a venerated object.

On Feb. 4, at approximately 8:03 a.m., East Rutherford police responded to a call from a man who reported that the side view mirrors had been pulled off his car while it was parked overnight at 948 York St.

Lyndhurst

On Feb. 6, at approximately 11 a.m., a complainant at the Humane Society on the 200-block of Stuyvesant Avenue reported that someone had cracked a window at the business.

North Arlington

On Feb. 5, at approximately 9:27 a.m., a victim reported someone spray painted an upside down "U" in white paint on the hood of a green 1993 Saturn SL1 parked on Fourth Street off of Ridge Road.

On Feb. 3, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a victim reported damage to a 2002 Ford pickup parked on Argyle Place between Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 3 at 12:20 p.m. The driver’s side door lock had been punched in, but entry was not gained to the vehicle and nothing was taken.

On Feb. 2, at approximately 7:29 p.m., police were dispatched to Beech Street off of Exton Avenue to an individual holding down a 15-year-old Kearny boy suspected of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle. A witness observed two individuals walking in front of a residence and stopping near a parked vehicle. One of the individuals kicked the rear quarter panel and both continued west on Exton Avenue. The witness followed them and caught one, while the other fled. Officers confirmed the dent on the vehicle, notified the victim and arrested the juvenile. He was released to a parent.

DWI

North Arlington

On Feb. 2, at approximately 12:02 a.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle speeding south on Ridge Road and cross through a red light at Arlington Boulevard. The vehicle continued traveling south to Beaver Avenue, striking the curb twice, before the driver, 23-year-old Daniel Jaryniewich, pulled over. Police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and arrested him for driving while intoxicated. He was released to a responsible party.

Miscellaneous

East Rutherford

On Feb. 1, at approximately 10:41 a.m., East Rutherford police were contacted by Paterson police, who had in custody 49-year-old Michael A. Mobley of Haledon, wanted by East Rutherford Municipal Court on a $500 warrant. East Rutherford police transferred the suspect to the Bergen County Jail.

Sexual Assault

Rutherford

On Feb. 6, at approximately 5:09 p.m., Rutherford police responded to a sexual assault. According to the grandmother of the two juveniles involved, a 16-year-old male exposed himself and began rubbing his genitals on the backside of his 3-year-old male cousin. The grandmother of the two walked into the room, discovered the event and called the police. Officer Steven Villareale responded to the scene. The sex crime division of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and the 16-year-old was arrested and transported to the juvenile detention center in Paramus. According to Rutherford Police no penetration took place and there were no signs of physical trauma to the three-year-old. The juvenile was charged with a second-degree sexual assault because of the age of the victim. All interviews were conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office. Lieutenant Patrick Feliciano of the Rutherford Police said he wasn’t aware that there was reason to believe the juvenile had done this before.

Threats

Rutherford

On Feb. 7, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Ridge Road resident reported receiving an e-mail on her Yahoo account earlier that day that consisted of multiple threats of violence. The e-mail didn’t address her by name and no the name of the sender wasn’t listed. The complainant reported she didn’t recognize the address of the sender.
