Assault
Carlstadt
In Jan. 29, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police responded to a reported stabbing at a business on Asia Place. Police learned of the stabbing after one of the victims was driving himself to get medical care on then shutdown Route 120. An ambulance was called for him there. Two individuals were stabbed with what police said are non life threatening wounds to the upper chest underneath the shoulder. The incident occurred after the men, who are truckers that go in and out of the business, got into an argument. Police are still trying to locate a New York man involved. The case is still under investigation.
East Rutherford
On Jan. 31, at approximately 10:39 p.m., police received several calls of a man knocking on doors on Boiling Springs while screaming someone was trying to kill him. The victim was found by officers on a doorstep lying face down covered in blood with bruises and lacerations to his face and back. He told officers he was visiting his brother, 46-year-old Kevin Moran of 194 Boiling Springs Ave. He said there were also other individuals there as well and an argument ensued. The victim said he was then held down and had his head shaven with a razor. Then Moran grabbed a long wooden object and began beating him in the head and back while 53-year-old Teresa Russinko of East Rutherford, 45-year-old Robert Morris of the Bronx and 22-year-old Kevin Moran, Jr. began punching and kicking him. Police arrived at the scene where they were met with resistance, but were able to arrest all four. Russinko was charged with obstruction and aggravated assault. The rest were charged with aggravated assault and criminal restraint. Bail was set at $5,000 with no ten-percent option and all were freed by bail bondmen. All are to appear in municipal court Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. The victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Carlstadt
On Jan. 30, at approximately 8:10 p.m., an officer on patrol saw a male and female walking on Garden Street from Stop & Shop with a red shopping basket and then place the items in a duffel bag. The officer questioned the two and asked for proof of purchase, which they could not provide. They were taken back to Stop & Shop where a store officer confirmed that the items, totaling $84.80, had not been paid for. The items were handed back over and the two were both arrested. Thomas Ukpokolo, 26, of Carlstadt and Janet Gambelunghe, 22, of Carlstadt were both charged with shoplifting.
East Rutherford
On Jan. 31, at approximately 11:16 a.m., a West New York resident reported that while he was loading his 2001 Ford van with beer, at BJ’s Wholesale Club, located at 300 Route 17 North, someone stole it. The vehicle contained 50 cases of Corona, 25 cases of Heineken and 15 cases of Coors Light valued at $2,000.
On Jan. 31, at approximately 7:31 a.m., a Hillside Terrace resident reported that he had parked his 1996 Infiniti in front of his residence and upon returning found that someone had entered it and stole a book of compact discs. The complainant also noticed damage to the overhead console to the sunroof.
On Jan. 29, at approximately 2:29 p.m., a resident of the 200-block of Hoboken Road reported that his son’s laptop had been stolen from the home. The complainant said his son left the house, but had lost his keys and left the home unlocked. Upon returning, the $400 laptop was found missing.
On Jan. 29, at approximately 8:14 a.m., a beer deliveryman reported he was making a delivery at BJ’s Wholesale Club, located at 300 Route 17 North. When he went to climb into the truck at the rear loading truck, his keys were pulled from his hand and he was grabbed by his sweatshirt and thrown to the ground by what he could only see as a man described as a tall black suspect. The suspect then locked the doors and took off with the truck that included $47,000 in beer and a $400 GPS unit. Soon after, a call was received that the truck had been spotted at Crystal Motor Express, located at 248 Paterson Plank Road in Carlstadt. It was the truck and the only item found missing was the GPS. A case of beer in the back was the only merchandise damaged.
On Jan. 27, at approximately 10:57 a.m., a complainant reported that a laptop connected to a projector left behind a stage in a ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel, located a 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. had been stolen in Jan. 13.
On Jan. 27, at approximately 12:32 a.m., a resident of the 20-block of Oak Street reported seeing a male from her home in her 1992 Toyota. Upon coming outside, she observed the male walking up Oak Street and she observed the car’s radio and laptop missing from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was ransacked, but there appeared nothing else to missing. Entry was gained through an unlocked driver’s side door. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male with blonde hair, wearing a dark sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath. He was also wearing work boots.
On Jan. 27, at approximately 12 a.m., police responded to the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr., for the report of an Arkansas resident that had her rental car broken into. The complainant reported that the driver’s side door lock had been broken on the vehicle and stolen from inside was a Garmin 750 GPS system valued at $700 and two Nextel phones valued at $650.
On Jan. 26, at approximately 6:56 p.m., a Lyndhurst resident reported that someone had attempted to steal his 2002 Dodge Ram while it was parked at Chilis, located at 140 Route 17 North. Officers observed a punched driver’s side door lock and a damaged door handle.
On Jan. 26, at approximately 10:25 a.m., a Massachusetts resident parked at the Sheraton Hotel,located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr., reported that someone had entered her 2008 Dodge rental car. Entry was gained by way of punching the driver’s side door lock. Bags inside the car had been emptied, but the complainant said there appeared to be nothing missing.
On Jan. 26, at approximately 9:57 a.m., a Maryland resident reported that her 2005 Chrysler 300 had been broken into while parked at the Homestead Village, located at 300 Route 3 East. Entry was gained to the vehcile through the driver’s side door lock. Stolen was a $400 GPS unit, a $250 DVD player and from the trunk, several articles of clothing and several bags of toys.
On Jan. 25, at approximately 9:15 a.m., a resident of the 90-block of Carlton Avenue reported that someone had entered her daughter’s 1994 Chevy. The complainant found the vehicle’s door opened and the glove box in disarray, but no items were reported missing.
Lyndhurst
On Jan. 30, at approximately 1 p.m., a proprietor of the Getty gas station, located a 45 Ridge Road, reported that a later model white Volvo was pumped $40 worth of gas, then took off without paying. The complainant told police the vehicle had no rear license plate.
On Jan. 28, at approximately 1:22 p.m., a Glendale, NY resident reported leaving a1998 Volkswagen with a company on Terminal Road to have it shipped to Europe. After noticing that the vehicle had not reached its destination, the complainant went to the business to investigate and found the vehicle there, but several items missing from it including a cell phone, laptop and clothing. The vehicle was parked with its keys in it.
North Arlington
On Jan. 25, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the owner of Wireless to Go at 159 Ridge Rd. reported a burglary to the business. The owner left the store at 9:30 p.m. and someone forcibly entered it before he returned at 11:30 p.m. Unknown actors stole several cell phones from the display case and multiple iPhones in storage in the rear of the building, valued at $30,000. The actors also stole $200 from the cash register.
Rutherford
On Feb. 4, at approximately 5:35 a.m., the owner of the Java Junction coffee shop at 1 Station Square reported someone broke into the shop overnight. $100 in cash was reported stolen from the cash register. Police observed that a window air conditioner unit had been pushed through in order to gain entry.
On Jan. 31, at approximately 9:40 a.m., an employee of the Union for Reformed Judaism reported that sometime between Jan. 25 and Jan. 30, someone stole two external computer hard drives valued at $400 from their offices on Route 17 North.
On Jan. 26, at approximately 4:09 a.m., an attendant at the Lukoil station on Route 17 North reported that someone received $60.25 worth of gas and then drove off without paying. The attendant observed the vehicle’s license plate number and police issued a summons to 20-year-old John Krommenhoek Jr. of Jersey City.

On Jan. 31, at approximately 9:02 a.m., a manager at Water-Jel Technologies, located at 50 Broad St., reported that nearly 30-feet of the north side of the building had been sprayed with graffiti. The words "Doc" and "Rio" were observed on the wall.
On Jan. 28, at approximately 8:11 a.m., police were called to American Paper and Supply Company, located 10 Industrial Rd., for the report of graffiti sprayed on a portion of the south side and the entire length of the west side exterior walls.
On Jan. 27, at approximately 3:14 p.m., a resident of the 600-block of Hackensack Street responded to headquarters to report that he had found several scratches to the trunk of his Lexus. The complainant told police that just before he found the scratches, he observed another tenant of his residence throw a metal object on the lawn before going inside.
East Rutherford
On Jan. 29, at approximately 11:42 a.m., a resident of the 300-block of Hoboken Road reported that she had parked her vehicle in the driveway Jan. 26 and someone had thrown gold colored paint on the hood.
North Arlington
On Jan. 30, at approximately 12:44 a.m., officers observed graffiti on Washington School on Biltmore Street. Unknown actors wrote a symbol, possibly a letter "B," in white spray paint on the double doors on the Biltmore Street side of the building.
Rutherford
On Feb. 3, at approximately 1:54 p.m., a man reported that sometime between Feb. 2 and the time of the report, the rear passenger’s side quarter panel of his vehicle was kicked in while it was parked on Chestnut Street.
On Feb. 2, at approximately 9:05 a.m., an employee of Dunkin’ Donuts of Park Avenue reported someone wrote "RIP Anthony" in red marker on the front walls and door of the store.
On Jan. 28, at approximately 9:24 a.m., a DPW worker reported the north side of the Kip Garage stairwell tower had been tagged with the word "JUST" in black and white spray paint.

Rutherford
On Feb. 1, at approximately 6 p.m., Rutherford police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East Passaic Avenue and Meadow Road. Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Vincent Martinez of Allentown, PA. Police discovered Martinez’s license was currently suspended and that he had an outstanding $195 warrant out of Riverdale. Police found a marijuana blunt in the vehicle and, upon searching Martinez, found three plastic baggies containing marijuana in his boot. He was charged with the Riverdale warrant, driving with a suspended license, possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Feb. 2, at approximately midnight, a Rutherford police officer effected a motor vehicle stop after a vehicle was seen exiting Route 3 via the Lincoln Avenue entrance ramp. Upon speaking with the driver, 20-year-old Christopher Matassa of Phoenix, AZ, the officer detected the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up an empty glassine baggy and a hand-rolled cigar containing what officers believed to be marijuana. Matassa was issued summons for improper exiting of the highway and possession of CDS.
DWI
Lyndhurst
On Feb. 1, police received a radio transmission about a motor vehicle hit and run on Route 495 in North Bergen and that the vehicle was seen on Route 3, getting off on Route 17. The vehicle and the vehicle that was hit were located on Polito Avenue with both drivers outside talking. Upon subsequent investigation, one of the parties involved, 29-year-old Lindsay Margarum of Lyndhurst was arrested for DWI and driving while suspended. She was released to a responsible party.
On Jan. 31, at approximately 1:46 a.m., police responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on the 600-block of Schuyler Avenue. Upon arrival, police found a 1996 Mercury that had struck a pole. The driver, 50-year-old Kimberly Sheridan of Lyndhurst, was treated by EMS and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where a blood sample was taken for a toxicity report. She was subsequently issued a summons for DWI.
North Arlington
On Feb. 1, at approximately 12:52 a.m., officers on patrol checking speeds on River Road detected a vehicle traveling at 60 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. Police stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver's breath. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 25-year-old Jorge Rodriguez-Murillo for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to a responsible party. He was also charged with careless driving and refusal to submit to a breath test.

On Feb. 2, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police received a report of a fight outside the Dunkin’ Donuts on Park Avenue. By the time police responded no fight was still ongoing but a group of people were still in the area. An officer spoke with 19-year-old Michael DeCarlo of Rutherford and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. DeCarlo was issued a summons for underage consumption of alcohol.
