Animal Complaint

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 24, police were called to the corner of Court and Jay Avenues for the report of two large Rottweilers with no collars running at large. Officers found the two dogs waling along Jay Avenue when a resident directed them to the dogs’ residence. Officers were able to corral the dogs into the home’s backyard and secure the gate. The owner, 36-year-old Russell Pascale, Jr. was issued a township ordinance after it was found the dogs were not licensed. He was ordered to immediately report to the Health Department for rabies shots and licensing.

Assault

East Rutherford

On Jan.24, at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers responded to 914 York St. for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a resident of the home who said she had to break up an argument between her boyfriend, 42-year-old James Binder, and another female resident of the home after Binder accused the other tenant of stealing electricity from him. Subsequent to an investigation, it was revealed that Binder had allegedly pulled out a knife and lunged at the woman he was arguing with. He also allegedly told her that he was going to kill her and her husband. After fleeing the scene, police were able to call him back. Binder was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and terroristic threats. His bail was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent option and an order to have no contact with the victim.

Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On Jan. 17, at approximately 4:19 p.m., an employee of Master Printing, located at 445 Industrial Road reported that he had parked his 1998 Dodge Intrepid in the lot before work and upon returning found the passenger’s side door lock cylinder hanging. The complainant reported nothing missing from the vehicle.

East Rutherford

On Jan. 24, at approximately 1:59 p.m., a complainant from Middletown called to report a stolen box trailer from Braha Industries, located at 299 Murray Hill Pkwy. The trailer was last seen between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7.

 

 

On Jan. 23, at approximately 6:05 p.m., a complainant at Metro Liquors, located at 576 Paterson Ave., reported that an individual had come in earlier in the day, distracted him, and then stole a bottle of Dewars Signature Series scotch whiskey valued at $199.99. The complainant said the suspect had asked for a different liquor and when he went to the counter, the suspect swiped the bottle from the shelf. Video surveillance revealed the suspect appeared to be a Hispanic male with dark hair, in his 20s, wearing a black sweatshirt with blue writing on the back with the number 68 on it and red on the right sleeve.

 

 

On Jan. 23, at approximately 9:55 a.m., an Allentown, PA resident reported that his 1994 Honda had been stolen while it was parked on the street in front of 243 Carlton Ave. The complainant could not place a value on the vehicle since it had numerous custom parts.

 

 

On Jan. 23, at approximately 7:33 a.m., an employee of Highway Safety Systems reported to police that his truck had been parked on the DOT parking lot along the Route 3 Service road for several weeks during road reconstruction. Upon checking one of the trucks, a 2008 Ford 550, the complainant reported that a lock had been damaged on a portion of the truck and it had been accessed. Missing were 35 various construction signs and 30 stands/wind masters. The total value of the merchandise was between $4,000 and $5,000.

 

 

On Jan. 20, at approximately 2:27 p.m., a Jamison, PA resident reported that he 2006 Ford had been broken to while parked at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. The complainant found the door lock punched to the passenger’s side and missing from the vehicle were two 30-gigabyte iPods in pink cases as well as the Vehicle’s registration and insurance.

 

On Jan. 20, at approximately 1:47 p.m., a Wall resident reported that her 2005 Ford was broken into while parked at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. The complainant reported that a TomTom GPS unit, charger and case valued at $1,000 were taken from the vehicle. It was determined that entry was gained by punching the driver’s side door lock.

 

 

On Jan. 19, at approximately 3:54 p.m., a Missouri complainant reported that a high/low style red trailer had been stolen while parked along the north service road of Route 3 West.

 

 

On Jan. 18, at approximately 7:24 p.m., a resident of the 700-block of Paterson Ave. reported the theft of her 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. She said the vehicle was stolen on Jan. 16, but hadn’t noticed until Jan. 17 when she was notified by Newark Police that the car had been involved in an accident there.

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 25, at approximately 6:52 a.m., a Perth Amboy resident reported that he had parked his 2006 Mac Truck on the site of Copeland Construction off of Riverside Avenue the night before and closed and secured the gate. Upon arrival that morning, he found the gate opened and the truck missing. It was described as having Bulldog stickers on the front fenders. The truck also contained approximately $100 worth of tools and chains.

 

On Jan. 24, at approximately 6:04 p.m., a New Hampshire resident reported that his 2005 Chevy box van, which was a work truck, was broken into while parked at the Quality Inn, located at 10 Polito Ave. Reported missing from the truck was a Sony PSP portable game unit and a Samsung cell phone. Police determined entry was gained through the passenger’s side door lock.

North Arlington

On Jan. 19, at approximately 8 a.m., unknown actors entered a vehicle parked on Eckhardt Terrace off of First Street and stole a Garmin Street Pilot GPS system, valued at $450.

 

 

On Jan. 18, at approximately 6:02 p.m., a complainant reported leaving a black and yellow Mongoose bicycle on the basketball court behind North Arlington High School between 4 and 5 p.m. The victim went to the Youth Center on Legion Place. Upon returning to the basketball court, the victim noticed the bike was missing. The bike was valued at $250.

Rutherford

On Jan. 22, at approximately 12:41 p.m., a juvenile reportedly entered the Leprechaun at 6 Park Ave. and asked for the price of a candy bar. The juvenile came back with a second juvenile and asked for a Snapple iced tea. The clerk went to grab the drink and, after turning around, saw the juvenile grab a pack of Newport cigarettes and run. The other juvenile remained. Police apprehended the juvenile on Hackensack Street in East Rutherford. The juvenile was charged with shoplifting and released to his parents.

 

 

On Jan. 21, at approximately 2:09 p.m., unknown actors reportedly stole a lock and dirty linen from Volares Restaurant at 7 Station Square. The lock and linen was valued at approximately $300.

Criminal Mischief

East Rutherford

On Jan. 18, at approximately 8:16 p.m., a complainant on the 300-block of Paterson Avenue reported that someone had tried gaining entry to his 2007 Nissan Murano sometime overnight between Jan. 15 and Jan. 16. There appeared to be damage to the driver’s side door lock, handle and door itself.

Lyndhurst

 

On Jan. 24, at approximately 10:12 p.m., a complainant on the 400-block of Post Avenue reported that both her father’s 1999 Jeep and sister’s 2002 Lexus had wiper blades removed from each of their windshields.

 

 

On Jan. 24, at approximately 9:09 a.m., a caretaker at Hillside Cemetery, located at 724 Rutherford Ave., reported that several bushes and flags had been burned and a statue broken next to several headstones in a contained location of the cemetery. The caretaker found a red disposable lighter next to one of the headstones.

Rutherford

On Jan. 25, at approximately 7:38 a.m., police responded to a report of criminal mischief to a 1989 Ford van parked on Hastings Avenue near Jackson Avenue. Unknown actors smashed the driver’s side vent window between Jan. 23 and Jan. 25 and ransacked a box in the vehicle. Around the corner on Jackson Avenue, police discovered unknown actors smashed the rear windshield of a 2003 Ford Van. Nothing was reported stolen from either vehicle.

 

 

On Jan. 22, at approximately 11:44 a.m., unknown actors reportedly crazy-glued the locks of Steve’s Hobby Shop at 2 Franklin Pl. The owner called a locksmith to repair the locks.

DWI

North Arlington

On Jan. 21, at approximately 2:07 a.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle in the middle of River Road at Sunset Avenue with a man standing outside of the vehicle near the driver’s side door urinating. The man then jumped into his vehicle and attempted to leave. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, 22-year-old Edwin Sanchez for driving while intoxicated. He was released to a responsible party on summonses.

 

On Jan. 20, at approximately 3:02 a.m., officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving in a careless manner near Gold Street and Albert Street. Police stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 42-year-old Andrzej Gwiszcz of North Arlington. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to a responsible party on summonses.
