Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On Jan. 12, at approximately 10:48 a.m., police were summoned to Morgan Stanley, located at 600 Commerce Blvd., Where an employee from Unity Electric of East Rutherford reported several items missing from his job site. Stolen from the business’s data center was 12 wooden ladders, six Rubber Made carts, two 1,000-foot reels of copper wire and 24 200-lb. barrels containing 250 custom made electrical whips at $150 each. The items were stolen by cutting chains that had secured them.

On Jan. 11, at approximately 10:50 a.m., a complainant from Jumbo Trading, located at 95 Broad St. appeared at headquarters to report an unlawfully taken vehicle registered to his business. The complainant told police that he had dissolved ties with a business partner in Apr. 2007, but the old partner had taken a 2002 Lexus L430 that remained registered to Jumbo Trading.

East Rutherford

On Jan. 16, at approximately 9:46 a.m., an Ozone Park, NY resident staying at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. reported that he had attended a meeting the night before and when he returned to the conference room in the morning, a company laptop was missing. The laptop was an IBM T43 valued at $2,500.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 12:14 p.m., an employee at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr., reported that he had gone out to his 2007 Chevy to find that the passenger’s side window had been shattered. Stolen from inside was a Compaq laptop computer valued at $2,000, a Magellan GPS unit valued between $300 to $400 and various tools valued between $400 and $500.

On Jan. 11, at approximately 4:21 p.m., a resident of the 70-block of Prospect Terrace reported that her 1995 GMC Sierra had been stolen. After the vehicle was put into the stolen vehicle registry, Belleville police contacted East Rutherford to notify them that they had the vehicle in impound after a drug possession arrest.

On Jan. 11, at approximately 8:26 a.m., a resident of the 100-block of Cornelia Street reported that his 2002 Honda Accord had been broken into by way of unknown actors breaking the driver’s side front window. Taken from the vehicle was a $200 Garmin 330 GPS unit.

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 17, an East Rutherford resident reported parking a 2002 Kia van at Lee’s Hawaiian Islander, located at 768 Stuyvesant Ave., and upon returning found a window shattered. Stolen from within the vehicle was a Nintendo Wii game, a briefcase and a digital camera.

On Jan. 17, at approximately 2 p.m., a patient from Wood-Ridge at a doctor’s office on the 100-block of Ridge Road reported having a wallet stolen.

On Jan. 16, at approximately 6:26 p.m., police responded to the 500-block of Valley Brook Avenue on the report of a burglary. Police found that entry was gained to the residence by way of a fire escape and then through a pushed in kitchen window. Bergen County investigators arrived and processed the scene. The owners had been away, so it is undetermined what had been taken from the home.

On Jan. 16, at approximately 11:29 a.m., a complainant at Ernie’s Deli on the 200-block of Stuyvesant Avenue reported that $60 had been found missing from the cash register. Police said the building had not been totally secure as a window had been left unlocked.

On Jan. 12, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police were called to ShopRite, located at 540 New York Ave. for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, police said they arrested 44-year-old Terrence Napolitani of East Orange after surveillance cameras caught him attempting to shoplift non-prescription vitamin bottles and green teach. The total value was $23.18.

On Jan. 12, at approximately 1:36 p.m., a complainant at the Courtyard by Marriott reported a theft of two laptops from a 2007 Chevy. Entry was gained to the vehicle by way of a smashed driver’s side rear window.

Rutherford

On Jan. 20, at approximately 9:22 a.m., a man reported the license plate was stolen from the front of his vehcile while it was parked over night in front of his Delafield Avenue residence.

On Jan. 18, at approximately 7:32 a.m., a man reported his 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck was stolen sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 7:05 a.m. on Jan. 18 while it was parked in the Extended Stay Motel parking lot. The vehicle was valued at $38,000 and reportedly contained a $1,000 GPS device, a $20 plastic tool box and a black duffel bag filled with dirty laundry valued at $250.

On Jan. 18, at approximately 6:16 a.m., a man reported someone broke into his Jeep and stole a GPS device while it was parked overnight in the Extended Stay Motel parking lot. Entry to the vehicle was gained by smashing the driver’s side window. While at the scene, police noticed another vehicle in the lot with a broken driver side window and left a note for the owner. The owner later contacted headquarters and reported that a $50 charger was missing from the vehicle.

On Jan. 16, at approximately 4:29 p.m., the owner of a vehicle that had been towed by New Jersey State Police and stored at the Nick’s Towing lot reported that when he went to pick up the vehicle, he discovered a $200 digital camera had been removed from the glove box.

On Jan. 16, at approximately 1:01 p.m., police observed that the Donaldson Avenue street sign at the corner of Donaldson and Mortimer Avenues had been stolen.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 6:12 p.m., an attendant at the Exxon Mobile station on Route 17 South reported that a young black male in a black two-door vehicle pulled up and received $40.80 worth of gas. When the attendant went to screw the cap on the tank, the driver sped away and fled on Route 17 South.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 8:38 a.m., a complainant reported his 2007 Lexus was entered by an unknown party while it was parked overnight in the driveway of his Myrtle Avenue home. The glove box had been ransacked but nothing was reported missing.

On Jan. 14, at approximately 11:17 p.m., a complainant reported that sometime between Dec. 5 and Jan. 14 a $75 Black & Decker sander was stolen from the common garage area of a condo on Orient Way.

On Jan. 14, at approximately 8:54 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime between Jan. 11 and the morning of the report someone broke into an Eyewitness News van parked at the Meadows Office Complex at 201 Route 17 North. The side door had been pried open and someone had stolen several hundred thousand dollars worth of electronic equipment including monitors, computers and satellite equipment.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On Jan.13, at approximately 11:43 a.m., a Lilac Lane resident reported that both sides of her 2002 Chrysler Town and Country had been scratched from the front panels to sliding doors while parked on the 300-block of Sixth Street.

East Rutherford

On Jan. 16, at approximately 12:48 p.m., a resident on the 20-block of Poplar Street reported that someone had cut the main power lines that run from the street’s PSE&G poles to his building. PSE&G confirmed that they had no work order to cut any lines.

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 17, a resident on the 500-block of Third Avenue reported hearing a loud bang outside and then saw two males running to a vehicle that fled. Police surveyed the area and found a vehicle with a smashed window. The victim was not home at the time of the incident to report if anything had been missing from the vehcile.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 3:03 p.m., a complainant at Bright Horizons, located at 9 Polito Ave., reported that both sides of a 1996 Toyota had been scratched.

North Arlington

On Jan. 17, at approximately 9:42 a.m., the owner of B & H Transmissions at 291 River Rd. reported graffiti painted on the rear of the building. The owner discovered a large mural which included the initials "WFS," the numbers "08" and the letters "WACO."

Rutherford

 

On Jan. 14, at approximately 4:27 p.m., a complainant reported that sometime between Jan. 4 and the day of the report someone covered the hood, roof, back window and driver’s side rear view mirror of his car with black spray paint while it was parked on Lincoln Avenue. In addition, the front driver’s side tire was slashed.

On Jan. 13, at approximately 9:59 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime between Jan. 12 and the morning of the report, someone broke off the side rear view mirror of her 2005 Mitsubishi and left it hanging by the electrical wires while it was parked on Park Avenue.

CDS

North Arlington

On Jan. 13, at approximately 3:37 a.m., officers on patrol checked on a suspicious vehicle on Wilson Place at Fifth Street and observed the driver with a cigar with the wrapping removed. As police approached the driver, 28-year-old Ariel Vizueta of North Bergen, he discarded the cigar. Police discovered seed and stems of un-burnt marijuana on the driver’s side floor. As the driver exited the vehicle, he put a small plastic bag down the back of his pants. Police found the clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana in Vizueta’s waistband. He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs in a motor vehicle. He was processed and released on summons.

Disorderly Conduct

Lyndhurst

On Jan. 13, at approximately 12:28 a.m., two males denied access to Crystal’s on Riverside Avenue due to intoxication became disorderly, prompting staff to call police. Upon arrival, and subsequent disorderly conduct, the tow males were arrested and charged for disorderly conduct. Peter Orzel, 35, of Little Falls and 33-year-old Andrzej Garczarek of Passaic were issued summonses and sent home in cabs.

DWI

Carlstadt

On Jan. 11, at approximately 1:42 a.m., an officer on patrol on Route 120 saw a Jeep Cherokee make an improper U-turn at 13th Street. The officer followed the vehicle until it stopped at Shakers bar, noticing that it had swerved into oncoming traffic and disregarded using blinkers during that time. Upon stopping, the driver, Walid Sebahia of Carlstadt was observed moving from the driver’s seat to the passenger’s seat. The officer approached him and smelt the odor of alcohol. Sebahia had persisted his girlfriend was driving the car and fled the scene. Subsequent to performing a sobriety test, police arrested Sebahia for DWI. Back at headquarters he was also issued several summonses including improper U-turn, failure to maintain a lane, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to exhibit a driver’s license and careless driving.

East Rutherford

On Jan. 15, at 4:24 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the corner of Paterson Avenue and Hoboken Road. Upon arrival, they found a 2007 Toyota with heavy front end damage. It was later determined that the driver, 28-year-old Korina Bougere of Carlstadt had struck a curb, street sign and railroad crossing before coming to a rest on the tracks. NJ Transit was notified to halt all trains. Bougere was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with chest injuries, but prior, officers had smelt the odor of alcohol on her breath. Blood was taken from Bourgere and she was issued summonses for DWI and careless driving.

On Jan. 13, at approximately 4:03 a.m., officers responded to the Route 3 ramp of Route 120 near the Meadowlands Racetrack for the report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Police approached a 1998 Lincoln Town Car pointed to by the driver as the car that caused the accident by swerving into oncoming traffic. The driver, 36-year-old Nmiri Ali of West New York was questioned after officers smelt alcohol emanating from his breath. He admitted to consuming a few Vodkas. Ali was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where blood samples were taken. He was charged with DWI and careless driving.

Prostitution

Rutherford

On Jan. 17, at approximately 2 p.m., members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO), Computer Crimes Task Force arrested 27-year-old Melissa Mazzaro of Rutherford. The arrest came as the result of an investigation into a network of individuals from the Bergen County and northern New Jersey area who were using Internet advertisements and area hotels to arrange and facilitate prostitution. Mazzaro was charged with promoting prostitution and released on recognizance.
