Burglary/Theft

East Rutherford

On Dec. 17, at approximately 9:07 a.m., police responded Wireless Sites, located at 1 Madison Street for the report of theft of several aluminum cable trays. In total, 12 aluminum trays valued at $150 each, 40 other trays valued at $180 apiece and 52 aluminum covers valued at $90 each were stolen. A surveillance video captured a white box truck’s license plate that had been seen leaving the area with the trays earlier in the morning. An officer who had passed the truck that morning got a good look at the driver and DMV was able to match the plate and photo of the man. Police have issued a warrant for 25-year-old Jahan Hendley of Clifton for theft and criminal trespass.

On Dec. 17, at approximately 8:22 a.m., police responded to Bellavia Buick at the corner of Union Avenue and Route 17 South for the report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The complainant told police that someone had smashed the driver’s side window of a 2004 Chevy and removed the left rear taillight of the vehicle.

On Dec. 16, at approximately 1:50 p.m., police responded to Strong and Shapely Gym, located at 150 Union Ave. for the report of a theft from a locker. The complainant stated he had left $500 in his jeans, placed them in a locker and when finished working out, the money was gone.

Lyndhurst

On Dec. 16, at approximately 11:56 a.m., a complainant on the 200-block of Clinton Terrace reported the theft of a 2006 Infiniti while it was parked on the street.

North Arlington

On Dec. 15, at approximately 3:33 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Ave. and Ninth Street on a report of a vehicle break-in. The victim returned home to find the door, trunk and hood of his tan Lincoln had been opened. Unknown actors stole the victim’s duty rig for work, which had a 36-inch asp, a pair of handcuffs, O.C. spray and a flashlight. A naval military ID card was also stolen from the vehicle. Officers also observed a small hole punched underneath the door lock.

On Dec. 15, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a victim reported unknown actors broke into a 2001 GMC Yukon parked on Second Street off of Union Avenue. The victim parked the vehicle on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and upon returning the following morning, found the door locks had been tampered with and several items had been stolen. One hundred dollars in cash and coins, a pair of Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses, ten video DVDs and a box of Chrismas decorations had been stolen from the vehicle.

On Dec. 16, at approximately 1:41 a.m., a victim reported unknown actors stole a T-Mobile Nokia 5700 phone, valued at $300, and a black down jacket, valued at $100, from a vehicle parked on Schuyler Avenue between the hours of 12 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Rutherford

On Dec. 19, at approximately 10:41 p.m., a resident on Lincoln Avenue reported he returned home that night to find his house had been burglarized. So far $2,000 worth of jewelry has been reported missing.

On Dec. 18, at approximately 10:59 a.m., a man reported his car was burglarized sometime between Dec. 7 and Dec. 11, during which time it was at the Stadium Auto Mall on Route 17 for repairs. A cell phone and a GPS system together valued at $1,594 were reported missing from the car.

On Dec. 18, at approximately 8:41 a.m., a student at Rutherford High School reported his cell phone was taken from a locker sometime between 8 and 8:35 a.m.

On Dec. 16, at approximately 2 p.m., a Park Avenue resident reported his snow shovel was stolen from his front lawn. Police determined a juvenile removed the shovel, carried it down the street and left it on a different property. No charges were filed.

On Dec. 12, at approximately 11 a.m., police received a report that an employee with a temp agency on Orient Way forged fake time cards while working for a company in Bloomfield. The employee, 35-year-old Marc J. Morgan of East Orange, forged his supervisor’s signature on five time cards between Oct. 25 and Nov. 30, billing the company for $1,061 for hours he didn’t work. Morgan, who has not yet been arrested, is charged with theft, forgery and uttering.

On Dec. 17, at approximately 12:12 a.m., an officer stopped a 2002 Infiniti on Route 120 South after it was observed driving with no headlights. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer observed his eyes were bloodshot and smelt the odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. Upon failing a sobriety test, police searched the vehicle and found two bags of marijuana, rolling papers, 18 empty beer cans, a glass pipe and an opened bottle of Grey Goose vodka. The driver, 20-year-old Joseph Otten of Commack, NY was arrested and charged with DWI and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. He was also issued summonses for operating a vehicle with no headlights, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and careless driving.

Lyndhurst

On Dec. 16, at approximately 12:46 a.m., police responded to Crystal’s on Riverside Avenue for the report of a waiter acting inappropriately at a private birthday party. Upon arrival, police were notified that 44-year-old Helder Fernando Miguel Rice of Newark had escorted a four-year-old from the party. A partygoer saw this and took the child back. Rice said he was simply showing her the lights from the nightclub across the hall, but was subsequently arrested with disorderly conduct for his behavior. He was also found to have an active warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department where he was turned over after having been processed in Lyndhurst.

Fraud

Lyndhurst

On Dec. 13, at approximately 7:21 a.m., a complainant on the 500-block of Summer Ave. reported that FedEx had notified him that they were attempting to deliver a package from a purchase he made from Cingular Wireless. The complainant claims he had made no such purchase. Detectives seized the package when it was delivered and are investigating how the victim’s information was use to make the purchase.

Miscellaneous

Rutherford

On Dec. 17, at approximately 11:40 p.m., an officer on patrol pulled over a car for passing on the shoulder in a construction zone on Route 3 West. The driver, later determined to be 20-year-old Jamaa L. Footman of Passaic, didn’t have a license and at first gave police a false name. Footman was issued summonses for improper passing and hindering apprehension.
