St. Mary’s boys team has rebounded nicely from an opening-night loss to Secaucus.
In a South Bergenite battle Thursday night, the Gaels had a strong third quarter to defeat North Arlington, 40-28, in North Arlington. Andrew Tedesco led the Gaels with 19 points including five, three pointers.
Doug Ford chipped in 11 for St. Mary’s in the BCSL National victory. Anthony Iavarone led North Arlington with 10 points, but no other Vikings were in double figures. Joe Monahan and Ryan Kenny had six points each for North Arlington.
The Gaels increased their record to 2-1 while North Arlington dropped to 1-2.
Rutherford got on the winning side of the ledger this season with a 53-34 victory at Tenafly on Thursday night. Greffen George, the transfer from Wallington, came up big with a game-high 23 points to lead the Bulldogs. Fadiel Rodriguez contributed 11 points in the BCSL American contest for Rutherford’s win and raise its record to 1-2.
Before falling to Secaucus on Thursday, the Golden Bears had a huge game on the road at Wallington. Senior Anthony Dorio led Lyndhurst with 18 points in the 61-27 victory over the Panthers. Glenn Flora contributed 15 points and five rebounds for the BCSL National.
The Golden Bears were leading by 20 at halftime, 32-12. Louis Baroody added six points to the victory for Lyndhurst.
After having a slow start, Queen of Peace senior center Bilal Dixon scored 19 points and blocked five shots in the Golden Griffins 63-48 victory against Westwood at home in the Dec. 18 contest.
All together four Queen of Peace players scored in double figures with Al-Dom Muhhamed with 11 points while Dwayne Moffatt and Javae Gilcrest contributed 10 points each. Zaire Harris added six points as the Golden Griffins defeated the defending BCSL American champions. The victory gave Queen of Peace a 2-0 mark.
Before the loss to St. Mary’s, North Arlington started a tough back-to-back games against Secaucus on Dec. 18. After staying close with the Patriots in the first quarter, 6-4, the Vikings could not keep up with Secaucus. The Patriots outscored the Vikings, 22-6 in the second quarter and they could not keep up with Secaucus.
Overall, North Arlington had eight players score with a balanced offensive attack, but the Vikings could not battle under the boards and stop the Patriots shooting. Sam Varano led North Arlington with seven points while Iavarone added six for the Vikings.
