Emily C. Peters
RUTHERFORD-Emily C. Peters (nee Rapisardi), of Rutherford, passed away on Nov. 24. She was 83 years old. Mrs. Peters was born and raised in Lyndhurst and had been a resident of Rutherford for many years.
She worked as a manager for Mandee’s Shop in Rutherford for 28 years.
Mrs. Peters is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth C. Peters. She is survived by sister Frances Piromalli, nieces Barbara Jenkins and Jill DeAngelo, nephew Michael Piromall and grand-nieces and –nephews Michael Piromalli, Justine Jenkins, Rachel DeAngelo and Samantha Piromalli. She is also survived by uncle Edward DeAndrea of Paramus and cousin Ann Reuter of Brick, as well as many friends.
A memorial mass was held on Nov. 30 in St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Rutherford. Arrangements were made by Nazare Memorial Home, Inc. in Lyndhurst.
Erica Rose Grady
Erica Rose Grady, of Clifton, passed away on Dec. 7. She was 25 years old. Erica is formerly of Carlstadt.
She is survived by mother Rose Anne Grady (nee Peeters), of Clifton and sisters Jennifer Anne and Katie Grady, of Clifton. She is also survived by grandmother Anne Peeters, of Carlstadt.
On Dec. 11, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Kimak Funeral Home in Carlstadt and later attended the funeral mass from St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in East Rutherford. The services were followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Elizabeth M. Huebner
Elizabeth M. Huebner (nee Hartten) passed away on Dec. 7. She was 73 years old. Mrs. Huebner was born Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Rutherford in 1957. In her later years, she resided in Montvale, Wayne and Montclair.
Mrs. Huebner is survived by husband Robert A. Huebner, son Robert F. Huebner and his wife, Kim of Aurora Ill. and daughters Kathy Huevnver Scott and her husband, Cliff of Norcorss Ga. and Terry Huebner Garamella and her husband, Joseph of West Caldwell. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bobby, Austin and Kandace Huebner, Christian and Miles Scott and Nicole, Jennifer and Jessica Garamella.
On Dec. 11, relatives and friends were received at the Dancy Funeral Home in Caldwell. The funeral service was held on Dec. 12 at the Timothy Lutheran Church in Wayne. Interment was private.
Richard Cascino
RUTHERFORD-Richard Cascino, of Rutherford, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7 at the University Hospital in Newark. He was 55 years old. Mr. Cascino was born in Newark and lived in North Arlington and Lyndhurst before moving to Rutherford in 2000.
Mr. Cascino is survived by daughter, Michelle Hannigan, parents Salvatore and Gloria (nee Delpome) Cascino of Palm Coast, Fla. and granddaughter Jordyn Hannigan. He is also survived by brother Salvatore Cascino and sister Barbara Malaro.
On Dec. 10, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Parow Funeral Home and then the funeral mass from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, both in North Arlington. The services were followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
Donations in his memory may be bade to the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, Hackensack University Medical Center, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, N.J. 07601.
Joseph Settembrino
LYNDHURST-Joseph Settembrino, of Lyndhurst, passed peacefully at home with his family at his bedside on Dec. 7. He was 97 years old. Mr. Settembrino was born in New York City and has been a resident of Lyndhurst for 55 years.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He worked as a Custodian for the Lyndhurst Board of Education for many years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the VFW #3549 and the B.P.O Elks #1505, both of Lyndhurst. He also was a member of Sacred Heart Seniors and Mount Carmel Seniors of Lyndhurst.
Mr. Settembrino is predeceased by wife Rose (nee Palumbo) Settembrino. He is survived by children, Teresa Sorkin and her husband, Jeffrey of Lyndhurst, Henry Settembrino of North Carolina and Joseph Settembrino of Lyndhurst. He is also survived by two granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and his caregiver, Alice Rylick.
On Dec. 10, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, then the funeral mass from Sacred Heart Church, both in Lyndhurst. The services were followed by interment in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
Joseph Gaffney
LYNDHURST-Joseph Gaffney, of Lyndhurst, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9. He was 70 years old. Mr. Gaffney was born in Passaic and had been a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst.
He was an Electrical Engineer for Hazeltine Company, Great Neck, N.Y. for many years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of The Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers, Inc.
Mr. Gaffney is predeceased by his parents Michael and Katherine (nee Gross) Gaffney and his sister Katherine Whitman. He is survived by brother-in-law Edward Whitman of Maryland, niece Leslie Balick of Florida, and nephews, Robert Whitman of Vienna and Michael Whitman of Maryland. He is also survived by three great nephews and cousins Doris Ludwig of Lyndhurst, Florence and Claire Derby of Lyndhurst, Edwin Gross of Englewood and Marie Peacock of Florida.
On Dec. 12, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc. then the funeral mass from Sacred Heart RC Church, both in Lyndhurst. Services were followed by interment in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
Helen Myers
RUTHERFORD-Helen Myers (nee Kearns), of Rutherford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Myers was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Myers is predeceased by husband Everett and daughter, Lillian Keeley. She is survived by children Everett Myers Jr. and Helen Hepworth and grandchildren Kathleen Hansen, John Walter Keeley, Mary M. Myers and Steven Adams. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Amanda Ray, Ashley Autumn, Liam Matthew and Kyle Conner.
On Dec. 13 relatives and friends attended a funeral mass at St. James Cathedral in Brooklyn, N.Y. The service was followed by interment in Long Island National Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston.
Pauline Boisits
RUTHERFORD-Pauline Boisits (nee Kleinschuster), of Rutherford, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Boisits was born in Austria.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of 55 Kip Center and the Rutherford Golden Age Club.
Mrs. Boisits is predeceased by husband Gustav Boisits. She is survived by sons Gustav and his wife, Kathleen, Christian and his wife, Regina, Edward and his wife, Lois and Peter and his wife, Candace. She is also survived by grandchildren Gustav, Edward, James, Daniel, Sherri, Christina, Christian Jr., Michael, Stephanie and Lisa and 10 great-grandchildren.
On Dec. 14, relatives and friends were received at Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home in Rutherford. A funeral mass was held on Dec. 15 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, also in Rutherford. The service was followed by interment in Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst.
Catherine Anna Kirk
CARLSTADT-Catherine Anna "Kay" Kirk (nee La Greca), of Carlstadt, passed away Dec. 11. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Kirk was born in East Rutherford and lived in Carlstadt for the last 60 years.
She was a crossing guard for the borough of Carlstadt for 16 years before retiring in 2002. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in East Rutherford. She was a member and past President of the Carlstadt V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary, Post 3149, a member of Vic’s Hoofers, the Carlstadt Senior Friendship Club and the Woman’s Club of Carlstadt.
Mrs. Kirk is predeceased by husband Richard A. Kirk, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by sons Richard Kirk and James Kirk. She is also survived by grandsons Richard A. Kirk and Keith R. Kirk and great-granddaughters Alyssa and Madison.
On Dec. 15, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Kimak Funeral Home in Carlstadt and then the funeral mass from St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in East Rutherford. The services were followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lyndhurst.

Thelma E. Hoelzel
EAST RUTHERFORD-Thelma Eleanor Hoelzel (Nee Dechert), of East Rutherford, passed away on Dec. 10. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Hoelzel was a resident of Carlstadt for over 50 years and lived in East Rutherford for four years.
She was an assistant tax collector for the borough of Carlstadt from 1983-1984. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in East Rutherford, a member of the Local Assistance Board of Carlstadt from 1979-1986, a member and past president of the Lyndhurst Emblem Club #72 in 1963, president of the Carlstadt Mother’s Club from 1975-1976, past president of the V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 8374 of East Rutherford. She was a member of the Vic Hoofers, Carlstadt Senior Friendship Club and the Carlstadt V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 3149.
Mrs. Hoelzel is predeceased by husband Charles J. Hoelzel, brother Curtis Dechert and one granddaughter. She is survived by sons George Hoelzel and his wife, Carol Ann, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Charles C. Hoelzel and his wife, Carol Ann, of Broomfield, Colo. and daughters Beth Alice Spooner and her husband, Michael, of Clarksburg, Cheryl James and her husband, Donald, of Carlstadt and Nancy E. Farina and her husband, Michael, of East Rutherford. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Marie Mazza
Marie Mazza (nee Zarella), of Hasbrouck Heights, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1. She was 96 years old. Mrs. Mazza was born in Passaic and was a resident of East Rutherford for 41 years and Hasbrouck Heights for 33 years.
She attended Passaic Elementary and High School and was an Honor Graduate of Drake Business School. She was employed by the Passaic Library System and later was secretary to the president of Drake Business College. She was also a secretary to the dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Fairleigh Dickinson University- Rutherford Campus before retiring.
Mrs. Mazza was elected Industrial Queen of Passaic in 1929. She was a vocal soloist on the radio station WODA and for St. Anthony Novenas for Shut-Ins. She was past president of Children of Mary Sodality, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 67 East Rutherford, past board director of the American Red Cross, East Rutherford, cultural chairman of CYO, St. Joseph’s Church, past president of Ladies Auxiliary, Rutherford Elks, past chaplain of the VFW, Hasbrouck Heights, past secretary of the Woman’s Club, Hasbrouck Heights and past officer of the Mother’s Club of St. Joseph’s Church. She also received a ribboned medal from the American Red Cross for many hours of service to veterans during WWII and a Life Membership Award from the Big Red One 1st infantry Division of the US Army.
Mrs. Mazza is predeceased by husband Joseph, daughter Joan Handschuh, three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by son Dr. Joseph Mazza and his wife, Karla, of Rutherford and grandsons Robert Hanschuh, of Rutherford and William Handschuh, of Hackensack.
On Dec. 5, relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Kimak Funeral Home in Carlstadt and then the funeral mass from St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in East Rutherford. Services were followed by interment in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi.
Lucinda Maria Dantas
Lucinda Maria Dantas, of Atlantic Beach, Fla., passed away Nov. 19. She was 39 years old. Ms. Dantas was born in Newark and lived in Rutherford before she moved to Florida eight years ago.
She was an English tutor for the University of Florida for eight years before retiring in 2007.
Ms. Dantas is predeceased by parents Albert. She is survived by daughter Lena Mary, of Florida, mother, Mary (nee Montiero) Dantas, sister Alice Marie Ramdas and her husband, Andrew, of East Rutherford. She is also survived by nieces Alexis, Elyssa and Kayla and grandmother Lena Montiero, of Newark.
A memorial service was held at the Kimak Funeral Home in Carlstadt on Dec. 14.
