BURGLARY/THEFT

East Rutherford

On Nov. 20, at approximately 2:29 p.m., a complainant reported unknown actors stole a wooden windmill and a green plastic birdbath from the front lawn of a High Street home sometime after 8:30 a.m.


On Nov. 17, at approximately 5:29 p.m., police responded to BJ’s Wholesale Club at 300 Route 17 North on a re-port of a shoplifter. An employee of BJ’s observed a man walk intro the men’s room wearing a Ralph Lauren sweater, color beige, valued at $26.99 with the tags hanging out. When the man exited the men’s room, the tags were gone. The man, Antonio Hernandez, told police he took the sweater. He was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting. He was released after posting $250 cash bail.

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 19, at approximately 9:29 a.m., a victim reported four hubcaps were stolen from a Mitsubishi Lancer barked on the 600-block of Riverside Avenue. The actor, 24-year-old Ramon Lapid of Belleville, dropped his cell phone at the scene. Police tracked him down and charged him with burglary and theft on Nov. 20.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 4:37 a.m., officers travelling westbound on Valley Brook Avenue observed a suspicious individual on Milburn Avenue between parked vehicles. Police stopped the individual to question him. Further investigation revealed that the man, 28-year-old Ivan Rosario, had stolen approximately $26 in loose change from a parked, unlocked car. He was charged with burglary and theft. Bail was set at $7,500 and he was remanded to Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.


On Nov. 21, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a victim reported the driver and passenger side mirrors of a 2005 Cadillac had been stolen from the 500-block of Fern Avenue.


On Nov. 22, at approximately 11:26 a.m., a victim reported someone broke into a 1997 Honda parked on the 500-block of Fifth Avenue. Unknown actors forced the driver’s side door open and stole a car stereo and $100 worth of CDs.

Rutherford

On Nov. 20, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a student at Rutherford High School reported that sometime between Nov. 19 and the time of the report someone removed her cell phone from a sweater on the gym bleachers. The phone was valued at $250.


On Nov. 19, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a man from Virginia reported that sometime between Nov. 18 and the time of the report someone attempted to break into his car while it was parked in the Renaissance Hotel parking lot. Officers observed that the driver side door lock was punched in but entry hadn’t been gained. Nothing appeared to be missing.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 2 p.m., a man reported someone broke into his car and stole a JVC radio-television and a laptop computer together valued at $4,000 while it was parked in the Renaissance Hotel parking lot.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a resident of Elliot Place reported that sometime overnight two pilgrim lawn ornaments valued at $25 each were stolen from his front lawn.

Rutherford

On Nov. 18, at approximately 8:43 p.m., an officer effected a motor vehicle stop on Fairview Avenue. While speaking with the driver the officer detected the smell of burnt marijuana. The officer saw what appeared to be marijuana on the front seat of the car and one of the car’s three passengers was found to have a prescription nar-cotic pill on his person. Police issued a summons for DUI to the driver, 18-year-old Michael Abramo of Rutherford, and charged him with CDS possession, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and being under the influence of CDS. The other three passengers, 18-year-old Karim Haggag, 18-year-old Shawn Critelli and a 16-year-old juvenile, were charged with being under the influence of CDS.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Rutherford

On Nov. 23, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the owner of a business on Franklin Place reported someone damaged two lighted collapsible Christmas trees placed in front of his store. Together the trees were valued at $40.


On Nov. 23, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a man reported the front driver’s side door handle and hood of his car were smeared with Vaseline while it was parked on Jackson Avenue. It also appeared something was jammed in the front driver’s side door lock.


On Nov. 20, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime between Nov. 19 and the time of the report someone slashed his car’s tires while it was parked on Feronia Way.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 10 p.m., a man reported two of his cars were vandalized sometime between Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 while they were parked outside his residence on Feronia Way. The tires on both cars were slashed.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 4 p.m., a man reported that sometime between Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 someone smashed the basement windows of his house on Springfield Avenue. It appeared that entry had not been gained and nothing was reported missing.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 4 p.m., a man reported that two of his cars were vandalized while they were parked in front of his residence on Carmita Avenue. One car had scratch marks all along the sides and the air had been let out of the other’s tires.


On Nov. 18, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a man reported someone cut his apartment’s cable TV line in the basement of his apartment building on Spring Dell.


On Nov. 17, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers observed the words “play ball” spray-painted in gold on the bus stop at the corner of Union and Darwin avenues. Similar graffiti was reported on news vending machines at the corner of Union and Grand avenues.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 18, at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers on patrol at a large event at Crystal’s at 525 Riverside Ave. watched people exit the building and observed a fight break out in the parking lot. Twenty-three-year-old Michael Pawlik of Clifton and 25-year-old Erblin Jucja of Garfield were charged with disorderly conduct and released on summonses.

DWI

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 18, at approximately 1 a.m., police observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Rutherford Avenue with its headlights out and swerving within the lane. The driver, 29-year-old Shirley Santos of Bogota, was charged with failure to maintain lanes, driving without headlights and driving while intoxicated. She was released on summons.


On Nov. 22, at approximately 4 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at Lewandowski Street and Kingsland Avenue. An individual reported the driver, 36-year-old Andres Perez, attempted to flee the scene after striking a parked 2006 Saturn with his Ford Taurus. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

FRAUD

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 17, at approximately 12:04 p.m., a Third Avenue resident reported receiving a letter from “Atlantic Lottery Corp.” stating the resident had won $4,985. A few days later, the victim received a check and cashed it at the bank. Along with the check were instructions to send $3,985 to Canada via Moneygram, which the victim did. The actors notified the victim via telephone and said the victim won an additional $262,000, but needed to send an additional $2,500 to receive it. The victim forwarded $1,000, but has not received anything. The original check the victim de-posited in the bank also turned out to be bad.

Rutherford

On Nov. 19, at approximately 4 p.m., a Maple Street resident reported he was told his Bank of America account was frozen when he attempted to use his ATM card. The bank informed him the account was frozen after a previ-ous cash withdrawal was posted on his account. The complainant said he didn’t make the withdrawal. An investi-gation is pending.

WEAPONS

East Rutherford

On Nov. 17, at approximately 2:24 a.m., an officer on patrol on Route 3 West observed a car traveling at 108 mph in a 55 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to effect a motor vehicle stop. However, the car began to accelerate and rapidly switch lanes, nearly striking several vehicles. The officer pursued the vehicle for about six miles before it finally came to a stop. The officer instructed the driver, 36-year-old Rafael Garcia of Paterson, to place his arms outside of the vehicle several times before Garcia complied. While speaking to Garcia the officer observed the handle of a billy club between the center console and the driver’s seat. Garcia was charged with speeding, reckless driving, eluding an officer and possession of a weapon and released on summonses.

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 21, at approximately 10:50 a.m., officers travelling westbound on Rutherford Avenue observed a vehicle in front of them apply the breaks for no reason. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver, 32-year-old Bryan Miller of Lima, OH, said he stopped to avoid striking a goose in the road. The officer did not observe the goose in question. Further investigation revealed both Bryan Miller and 30-year-old Quincy Miller, also of Lima, to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Bryan Miller was also in possession of hollow-point bullets and a handgun. After paying $500 bail each, both were released on summonses.
