BURGLARY/THEFT

East Rutherford

On Nov. 13, at approximately 11:57 a.m., a complainant at the Homestead Village, located at 300 Route 3 East, re-ported that his 2008 Mercury Sable had been broken into by way of a punched driver’s side door lock. Taken from the vehicle were two black suitcases.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 9:58 a.m., an Arlington, VA resident reported that his 2007 Chevy Suburban had been broken into at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. by way of a damaged driver’s side door lock. Taken from the vehicle was a Garmin Nuvi GPS system valued at $400 as well as a computer power cord valued at $150.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 3:59 p.m., a resident of the 30-block of Glenn Ct. reported that the left side fog light and housing on his 2004 BMW had been removed.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 11:07 a.m., a Cuyahoga Falls, OH resident reported that his 2007 GMC Yukon had been broken into while parked at the Homestead Village, located at 300 Route 3 East. Upon arrival, police found that entry had been gained through the driver’s side door lock. Taken from the vehicle was a Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS unit valued at $700.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 4:01 p.m., a New York City resident reported that her IBM Thinkpad laptop valued at $2,000, had been stolen from a room at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. The complainant said the room at the hotel could only be opened by employees of the hotel.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 3:53 p.m., a New York resident said that her projector, carrying bag, power cord and remote control/laser pointer were all stolen from a room at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Dr. The complainant stated that the room could only be accessed by hotel employees. The projector was valued at $800.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 9:28 a.m., police responded to the Metro Media Building, located at 1 Meadowlands Plaza Dr., for the report of an unwanted visitor. Upon arrival, officers found 42-year-old August Salvaty of Union City on the floor under the power of a security guard. Salvaty was seen discarding a Coach wallet as he tried to flee the building upon being questioned. Inside the wallet was $120 and after the victim was contacted to retrieve it, she had claimed two credit cards were missing and used the day prior to make $2,000 worth of purchases at Macy’s in New York City. Salvaty was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and possession of stolen property. He was able to post $1,000 bail and was released pending a court date.

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 11, at approximately 7:53 p.m., a resident of the 200-block of Summit Avenue reported that she had ar-rived home to find a slender, approximately 5’6” juvenile male in her residence. The juvenile had fled out a rear door in the building. The resident reported a laptop computer and Xbox game missing. An investigation squad from Bergen County processed the scene.

On Nov. 11, at approximately 6:39 p.m., a complainant reported a residential burglary on the 400-block of Wilson Avenue. Police identified that entry to the home was gained through a window and taken was approximately $500 in jewelry. An investigation squad from Bergen County processed the scene.

On Nov. 11, a Franklinville resident reported that his 2001 Ford pickup had been broken into while in the parking lot of the Quality Inn. It was determined that entry had been gained by punching the driver’s side door lock. Taken from the truck was a GPS unit and wallet containing various credit cards.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 4:01 p.m., a complainant reported the theft of a 1993 Ford from the 400-block of Lake Avenue.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 7:52 a.m., a complainant from China reported that he had been robbed outside the Quality Inn. The complainant reported that two males, one 6’ and the other 5’7” had asked him for a cigarette and a light. He obliged and then the taller male told the complainant that he had a stain on the back of his jacket. As the complainant went to take off the jacket, he took his bag off his shoulder and one of the males grabbed it. They both fled in a black Jeep. Inside the bag was $3,000 in U.S. currency, $3,000 in Chinese currency, a passport and an air-line ticket.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 4:14 p.m., a Clifton resident reported the theft of a GPS from a 2007 Toyota parked at the Courtyard by Marriott. Entry to the vehicle was gained by way of a smashed driver’s side window.

On Nov. 9, a Little Falls resident reported the theft of a laptop computer and black leather Kenneth Cole bag from a 2006 Acura parked in the King’s Court parking lot. Entry to the vehicle was gained by way of a smashed rear window.

CDS

East Rutherford

On Nov. 12, at approximately 6:40 p.m., an officer on patrol followed a 1995 Plymouth for three blocks as it was traveling over the speed limit and made a motor vehicle stop near the corner of Humboldt St. and Railroad Avenue for the violation. Upon speaking to the driver, 19-year-old Nikita Villopoto of Carstadt, the officer noticed her shove an object down the rear of her pants. Subsequent to locating four razor blades and rolled up dollars with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine in them, Villopoto admitted she had shoved another dollar down her pants. A further search of the vehicle found 5 small bags of cocaine and a partially smoked marijuana blunt. Villopoto was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. She was also issued a summons for speeding and released ROR.

On Nov. 8, at approximately 8:53 p.m., police investigating a possible drug sale near Charlie’s Pizza, located at 850 Paterson Ave., observed a male fitting the description of the dealer they were looking for walk up to the pizzeria. Officers approached the man, 29-year-old Abdul Hogan of Passaic and questioned him as to if he had anything illegal on him, in which he did not respond. Detecting a bulge in his jacket pocket, the officer reached in and pulled out one Ecstacy pill and two large rocks of cocaine. Hogan was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of CDS with intent to distribute, distribution within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of crack/cocaine and possession of Ecstacy. Hogan’s bail was set at $22,500 with no 10 percent option. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 10, at approximately 11 a.m., a Tenth Street resident reported that that the windshield had been broken and food thrown on a 2001 Dodge.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 6:55 p.m., a Parsippany resident reported a smashed driver’s side window on a 2005 Infiniti while it was parked in the lot of King’s Court on Riverside Avenue.

DWI

East Rutherford

On Nov. 9, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a three-car accident at the intersection of Hackensack Street and Paterson Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with one individual that suspected the man of causing the accident to be intoxicated. Police spoke with the man, 41-year-old Michael Cimmino of East Rutherford, and smelt the scent of alcohol emanating from his breath. Subsequent to failing field and breath sobriety tests, Cimmino was arrested and charged with DWI.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 2:15 a.m., an officer on patrol pulled over a 2004 Nissan Titan near the corner of Oak Street and Paterson Avenue after it was clocked traveling 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. Upon speaking to the driver, 26-year-old Krzysztof Szczachor of Garfield, the officer smelt the scent of alcohol emanating from his breath. Sub-sequent to failing a sobriety test, Szczachor was arrested and charged with DWI.

FRAUD

East Rutherford

On Nov. 14, at approximately 6:16 p.m., officers were detailed to Staples on a report of credit card fraud and told the suspects had fled in a white van with Arizona license plates. The vehicle was stopped on Route 17 and both the driver and passenger were brought in for questioning. Upon checking both, officers found several identifications and credit cards on each with different aliases. 18-year-old Luis Rodriguez of Yonkers and 37-year-old Winston Fernan-dez of the Bronx were arrested and charged with fraud.

MISCELLANEOUS

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 12, at approximately 8:19 p.m., a complainant at the Dollar Tree, located at 425 Valley Brook Ave. re-ported that two males had just left the store after creating a disturbance. The males were pointed out in a vehicle that was leaving the shopping center and was subsequently pulled over near the corner of Lincoln and Fern Avenues. Subsequent to investigating the occupants, one suspect, 20-year-old Jonathan Muniz of Bloomfield was ar-rested and charged with underage drinking and disorderly conduct. The other passenger, 21-year-old Ronald McDaniel of Belleville was found to have two warrants out of Newark and Parsippany and was handed over top Parsippany police. The driver, a 17-year-old female Belleville teen was issued a summons for violating the rules of a provisional driver.

On Nov. 9, at approximately 11:39 p.m., a taxi driver reported that he had picked up two males in New York City and dropped them off at the NJ Transit lot, located at 540 New York Ave. Upon reaching his hand out for the money, they pulled his arm and said they were refusing to pay. The males hopped into their car and struck the taxi before fleeing the lot.

WARRANTS

East Rutherford

On Nov. 14, at approximately 3:49 a.m., police pulled over a 1996 Acura Integra on Route 3 West that had been traveling 82 mph in a 55-mph zone. Upon checking the DMV records, it was revealed that the driver, 25-year-old Richard Lafortune of Westbury, NY had a suspended driver’s license and active failure to appear warrant out of Piscataway. He was issued a summons for driving while suspended and speeding. A passenger, 22-year-old Anthony Hill of East Orange was found wanted out of Essex County. After 17 hours of unsuccessfully trying to reach the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Hill was released ROR.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 12:10 a.m., an officer noticed a vehicle parked in the left turn lane near the corner of Union Avenue and Hackensack Street. After checking the driver’s motor vehicle records, it was found that 60-year-old Frances Nathan had a $81 warrant outstanding from Passaic. Her daughter appeared to headquarters and posted bail.
