VanGieson, Harold F. Sr.

Harold F. VanGieson, Sr. passed away at the St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007. He was 88 years old.
Harold was born March 16, 1919 in Jersey City, New Jersey, a son of the late Percy and Ida Straut VanGieson.
On June 14, 1941 he married Mary Louise Fligge in Hecla, PA.
Harold served in the United Sates Army during World War II, having been stationed in both Missouri and Ari-zona. He was employed as a switchman by Lackawanna Railroad later becoming Conrail. Harold was a member of the American Legion, Rutherford, NJ, and the Vernon Valley Rod and Gun Club, was an avid fisherman and out-doorsman.
VanGieson is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary, one son, Harold F. (Jo Ann) VanGieson, Jr. of Fond du Lac, a foster daughter, Lena (Frank) Struck of Wayne, NJ, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 7 at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac. Cremation has taken place.

Elizabeth A. Chimento

LYNDHURST-- Elizabeth A. Chimento (nee Paterno), of Lyndhurst, passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007. She was 83 years old. Mrs. Chimento was born in and a life long resident of Lyndhurst. She was a Homemaker and a member of The Friendship Club and The Emblem Club, both of Lyndhurst.
She is predeceased by her husband, Sam J. Chimento. Elizabeth is survived by her three children: Judy Nittoli and her husband, Vincent, of Carey, N.C.; Michael Chimento and his wife, Pamela, of Toms Brook, Va. and James Chimento and his wife, Kimberly. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Donovan, Matthew & Michael Chimento, and Michael Nittoli.
Relatives and friends attended the funeral on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst then to St. Michael’s Church, Lyndhurst where a funeral Mass was offered. The mass was followed by interment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Make-A-Wish Foundation of NJ, 1034 Salem Rd., Union, NJ 07083-7058.

Salvatore A. Petrullo

Salvatore A. Petrullo, of Nutley, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2007. He was 61 years old. Mr. Petrullo was born in Hoboken, lived 20 years in Lyndhurst, and has been a resident of Nutley for the past 2 years.
He worked as a Computer Operator for Goody Products, Kearny for 10 years, retiring in 2005.
Salvatore is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Cummings) Petrullo, his two children, Lisa Trovato and her husband, Philip, of Nutley and Anthony Petrullo and his wife, Deana. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, and his brother, Patrick Petrullo.
Relatives and friends attended the funeral on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Nazare Memorial Home, followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst. The mass was followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Dorothy Coppola

Dorothy Coppola (nee Littig), of Lyndhurst, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007. Mrs. Coppola was born in Newark and has been a resident of Lyndhurst for many years.
She worked as an office manager for Bradford Arms in Cedar Grove for three years and as an owner/real estate broker for Coppola Real Estate in Jersey City for ten years.
Mrs. Coppola is predeceased by her husband, Mario L. Coppola and her brother, Edward Littig. She is survived by her two siblings John A. Littig and his wife, Marlene, of Ohio and Carol Geragotelis of Rutherford and her hus-band, James and her sister-in-law, Amelia de-Asa Weiland of Matawan. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Diane Dent, Alane Geragotelis, John V., Marco de-Asa and Eddie Littig as well as grand nephews, Joey and Nicky Dent.
Relatives and friends attended the funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Nazare Memorial Home. The service was followed by interment at the Presbyterian Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Goodwill Home & Rescue Mission and/or The Salvation Army.

Dennis Logan

NORTH ARLINGTON-- Dennis Logan, of North Arlington, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. He was 71 years old. Mr. Logan was born in Kearny, lived in Lyndhurst and moved to North Arlington 28 years ago.
He worked as an ironworker with the Ironworkers Union Local #11 in Springfield for 40 years before retiring 14 years ago. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge in Manahawkin.
Mr. Logan is survived by his wife Bernadette M. Logan (nee Schmidt), daughters Colleen Brennan and her hus-band, Michael and Doreen Schaefer and her husband, Richard and sons Kevin Logan and his wife, Carrin and Dennis Logan and his wife, Christine. He is also survived by grandchildren Kaitlyn, Megan, Logan, Victoria, Sean, Trent and Kara and brothers Roger and David Logan.
A funeral Mass was held on Nov. 12 in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, following the funeral from Parow Fu-neral Home, both in North Arlington. The service was followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetary in North Ar-lington. The family would appreciate donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 in his memory.

Joseph J. Baumgartner

NORTH ARLINGTON-- Joseph J. Baumgartner, of North Arlington, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007. He was 77 years old. Mr. Baumgartner was born in Jersey City and lived in North Arlington since 1955.
He worked as a proposal manager for Foster Wheeler Company in Clinton for over 35 years before retiring.
Mr. Baumgartner is predeceased by his wife, Ann M. Baumgartner(nee Kavanagh). He is survived by son Joseph J. Baumgartner, Jr. and daughters Carol Baumgartner, Donna MacMillan Marotti and her husband, Douglas Marotti and Gail O’Shea. He is also survived by grandchildren Jaclyn MacMillan, Shery, Michelle and Christina O’Shea and Jamie and Jenny Marotti and brother Stephen Baumgartner.
A funeral Mass was held on Nov. 9 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church following the funeral from Parow Funeral Home, both in North Arlington. The service was followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetary in North Arlington.

Robert J. Duda

LYNDHURST-- Robert J. Duda, of Lyndhurst, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007. He was 58 years old. Born in Newark, Mr. Duda was a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst.
He was a professional photographer and was owner of his own computer consulting firm. He served in the US Navy during the Cold War.
Mr. Duda is survived by daughter Jennifer Cusack and her husband, Matthew Cusack and grandchildren John Robert Cusack and Julia Lee Cusack. He is also survived by many cousins and dear friends.
A funeral service was held on Nov. 6 at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home in Lyndhurst. The service was fol-lowed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst.

Michael G. O’Brien

EAST RUTHERFORD-- Michael G. O’Brien, of East Rutherford, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007. He was 40 years old. He was formerly of Bogota.
Mr. O’Brien was a gauger at Buckeye Pipeline in Linden.
He is survived by parents Sean and Nancy O’Brien, wife Evelyn O’Brien (nee Kapellar), three sons Tyler, Dylan and Collin and three daughters, Ashley, Shana and Alexa. He is also survived by brothers Johnny O’Brien, Desmond O’Brien and Kevin O’Brien, sisters Mary Giaquente and Colleen O’Brien and four nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held on Nov. 9 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in East Rutherford.

Mary Shastay

NORTH ARLINGTON-- Mary Shastay (nee Petrick), of North Arlington, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at the Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Shastay was born in Jersey City and lived in North Arlington since 1980.
She was employed at several family-owned restaurants and taverns in Jersey City for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Pter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Jersey City.
Mrs. Shastay is predeceased by husband Albert Shastay, daughter Barbara Shastay and sister Eve Petrick. She is survived by niece Marlene McGee and nephews John, Gregory and Robert Petrick.
A funeral service was held on Nov. 7 at the Parow Funeral Home in North Arlington. The service was followed by interment in Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Angelina Vai

LYNDHURST-- Angelina Vai (nee Vizzacero), of Lyndhurst, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Vai was born in Stubenville, Ohio and raised in Detroit, Mich. She lived in New Jersey, then Florida for 30 years until moving to Lyndhurst where she was a resident for the past five years.
She worked as a supervisor for RCA of Harrison until she retired in 1971.
Mrs. Vai is predeceased by her husband Leon Vai and daughter Rose T. Latella. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Pezzolla and her husband, Richard, of Lyndhurst and grandchildren Michelle Kesack, Tina Catalano, Luanne Testone, Lori Santiago and Rober Latella. She is also survived by her five siblings, Vera Salameno, Lucy Malanski, Josephine Ondia, Ross Vizzacero and Louis Vizzacero and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Nov. 5 at the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc. then to a Funeral Mass held in Sacred Heart Church, both in Lyndhurst. The mass was followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lyndhurst.
