BURGLARY/THEFT

Carlstadt

On Oct. 31, at approximately 8:21 a.m., police responded to the 400-block of Sixth Street for the report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The complainant reported that he had found the driver’s side window smashed on his vehicle and taken from within was a Garmin Street Pilot c330 GPS unit valued at $350.

Lyndhurst

On Oct. 31, at approximately 8:02 p.m., a complainant on the 600-block of Ten Eyck Avenue reported the theft of her 1999 Plymouth Wagon. The complainant told police that all doors had been locked and there were no signs of a forced entry at the scene of the theft.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 10:42 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a 1996 Pontiac parked on the 700-block of New York Avenue with the driver’s side window shattered. After contacting the vehicle’s owner, he told police that a Cobra GPS unit had been stolen.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 8:17 a.m., a Cliffside Park resident parked on the 200-block of Orient Way reported that the passenger’s side window in his 2005 Honda had been shattered and the center console and glove box were opened and a $600 Magellan GPS unit had been stolen.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 6:32 a.m., a complainant on the 100-block of Lake Avenue reported a shattered passenger’s side window on a 2002 Audi. Nothing appeared missing from the vehicle.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 6:05 a.m., a complainant parked at 16 Riverside Ave. reported a passenger’s side window broken on a 2008 Hyundai and a $300 TomTom GPS unit stolen from within.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 1:11 a.m., a Caldwell resident parked in the vicinity of 16 Riverside Ave. reported that her 2005 Hyundai had been broken into by way of a shattered driver’s side window. Taken from inside the car was a $500 TomTom GPS unit, a Louis Vuitton purse and a Coach wallet. The wallet contained the victim’s social security card as well as he daughter’s social security card.

North Arlington

On Oct. 26, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a victim reported parking a vehicle on Park Avenue off of Beech Street on Oct. 24. Upon returning on Oct. 26, the victim noticed both doors were open and a Sony PlayStation 2, valued at $130, had been stolen from the vehicle.

Rutherford

On Oct. 31, at approximately 11 a.m., a complainant reported his car was broken into while it was parked on Sylvan Street sometime between Oct. 29 and the time of the report. The passenger’s side window was smashed and a $600 GPS system was stolen.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a complainant reported someone entered his car while it was parked on Home Avenue. Fifty dollars worth of chargers and wires for a GPS system that were lying on the front seat were stolen, but the GPS wasn’t in the car. The owner had left the doors unlocked.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 4:50 a.m., a woman reported someone broke into her car parked near the corner of Montross and Morse avenues sometime between 10 p.m. the previous day and the time of the report. One of the car’s windows was shattered and a GPS system was stolen.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 4:30 a.m., a man reported someone broke into his car while it was parked in front of his house on Montross Avenue sometime between 10 p.m. the previous day and the time of the report. The front driver’s side window was shattered and it appeared someone had unsuccessfully attempted to remove a TV monitor. Nothing was reported stolen.

On Oct. 30, at approximately 4 p.m., a complainant reported his bike was stolen from in front of the Rutherford Public Library sometime between 3:30 p.m. when he arrived and leaned it against the bike rack and 3:40 p.m. when he came out of the library and saw it was missing.

On Oct. 29, at approximately 3 p.m., a complainant reported someone stole his bike from the enclosed back porch of his Grand Avenue residence sometime between Oct. 25 and the time of the report. The bike was valued at $700.

On Oct. 29, at approximately 2 p.m., the owner of a business on Park Avenue reported someone stole $500 in Amex gift cards sometime between Oct. 23 and Oct. 29.

On Oct. 28, at approximately 9 a.m., a man reported an American flag was stolen from a flagpole outside his residence on Sylvan Street. The flag was valued at $30.

On Oct. 28, at approximately noon, a man reported two of his family’s cars were broken into sometime between 8 p.m. the previous day and the time of the report while they were parked on Union Avenue. The front passenger’s side windows of each were smashed and two $200 GPS systems were stolen.

On Oct. 27, at approximately 7:50 a.m., a man reported someone broke into his car sometime between 11:30 p.m. the previous day and the time of the report while it was parked in front of his home on Darwin Avenue. The glove box and center console had been rifled through but nothing was missing. The owner of the car had a GPS mount on his windshield but had taken the actual device into the house with him the night before.

On Oct. 27, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a man reported someone broke into his car sometime between 3 and 11 p.m. while it was parked in front of his home on West Newell Avenue. Someone had forced entry by prying open the driver’s side window through the weather stripping. The owner of the car had a GPS mount on his windshield but had taken the device into the house with him. Nothing appeared to be stolen.

On Oct. 27, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a man reported someone broke into his car sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. while it was parked on Spring Dell near the intersection of Sylvan Street. Someone had used a tool to force open the driver’s side window. Forty dollars in cash and a $650 GPS system were reported stolen.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Carlstadt

On Oct. 30, at approximately 9:23 p.m., police were called to the Stop and Shop on Paterson Avenue to receive a complaint of five males in a black Chevy Equinox that had thrown eggs at a group of people near the corner of Broad and Washington streets. Police located the vehicle fitting the description and pulled it over near the corner of Industrial Road and Garden Street. Police found five juveniles inside, one in possession of three eggs. The vic-tims wished not to sign any complaints, so the eggs were destroyed at the scene and the juveniles were released.

Lyndhurst

On Oct. 31, at approximately 2:51 p.m., a resident of the 700-block of Seventh Street appeared at headquarters to report that someone had scratched or keyed the driver’s side rear door on his 2003 Toyota Highlander.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 1:40 p.m., an employee of the Valley National Bank, located at 456 Valley Brook Ave., reported that “WAS” had been vertically spray painted on a rear door on the building.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 8:18 a.m., a complainant on the 700-block of Seventh Street reported that someone had thrown an egg on the truck of her 2007 Cadillac and that there were scratches in the hood of the vehicle.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 7:54 a.m., a complainant on the 400-block of Second Avenue reported that her 2002 Pontiac had yellow and white spray paint marks on the driver’s side.

On Oct. 30, at approximately 9:18 p.m., an officer on patrol near the corner of Livingston Avenue observed eggs thrown from out the window of a 2006 Nissan Maxima and strike a pedestrian in the legs and chest. Police found seven cartons of eggs in the vehicle and four juveniles were detained and released to their parents. The driver was charged with throwing debris from a motor vehicle, tinted windows and failure to wear a seatbelt.

On Oct. 30, at approximately 7:17 p.m., police responded to a criminal mischief to three vehicles parked at and in the vicinity of 333 Chase Ave. Upon arrival, police spoke with one of the complainants who had caught a juvenile pouring shaving cream and chocolate syrup on a 2006 Nissan Maxima, a 2003 Ford Explorer and a 1997 Chevy Blazer. Four of the juvenile’s accomplices that had fled the scene soon came back to confess they were involved. No complaints were signed.

DWI

North Arlington

On Nov. 1, at approximately 2:01 a.m., officers on patrol observed a large group arguing in the municipal lot be-neath Melray’s furniture store at 37 Ridge Road. The group of men believed to be the aggressors entered a red Ford Expedition in the lot and police stopped them as they were leaving. Upon speaking to the driver, 28-year-old Enrique Mercado of Newark, police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. After failing a field sobriety test, Mercado was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Police discovered he had a $424 outstanding traffic warrant in Jersey City, a $500 traffic warrant in Newark and another $200 traffic warrant in Newark. Also, Mer-cado had an outstanding criminal warrant in the amount of $2,500 in Jersey City. He was arrested, processed and issued summonses for driving with a suspended license, refusal to submit to a breath test and driving an uninsured vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and Mercado was released to a responsible party after posting full cash bail on the warrants.

MISCELLANEOUS

Carlstadt

On Nov. 1, at approximately 1:54 a.m., police and fire personnel responded to 760 Washington Ave. where they found three trailers owned by Furniture Resellers Inc. fully engulfed in flames. One firefighter received an injury to his forehead fighting the blaze and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center while police are investigating the possibility of arson as a cause.
