Arrest
Rutherford
On Oct. 7, at approximately 12:15 p.m., an officer stopped a group of four kids who were shaking a newspaper machine at the corner of Park Avenue and Glen Road. Three members of the group were juveniles but one was an adult. The officer detected the odor of alcohol on 19-year-old Jon Beagle of East Rutherford and arrested him for underage drinking.
On Oct. 8, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance in a home on Montross Avenue. A husband and wife were arguing. Police ran a check on the two and found the man, 59-year-old Robert Genardi of Rutherford, had an outstanding warrant from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for $46,000 in unpaid child support. Officers arrested him and turned him over to the Bergen County Jail.

On Oct. 6, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a man reported he was walking down Park Avenue when a white sedan drove by and an unknown actor threw an egg at him.
On Oct. 9, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Passaic police officers informed Rutherford police that a man was assaulted on a New Jersey Transit bus as it passed through Rutherford earlier that evening around 7:30 p.m. By the time the bus driver called NJ Transit and NJ Transit called the police, the bus was in Passaic where officers stopped it and arrested Sherman Washington of Clifton. Washington was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Cliffside Park.

On Oct. 8, at approximately 4:02 p.m., a woman reported her son noticed the interior lights of her car were on at about 6:20 a.m. that morning while it was parked in front of their residence on Carlyle Court. The doors were unlocked, the glove compartment was open and some of the contents were strewn about the front seats including an envelope containing cash. The cash was undisturbed and only some coins from the center console appeared to be missing.
On Oct. 9, at approximately 7:10 p.m., a woman reported her purse was stolen on Oct. 3 from the Stop & Shop parking lot. The complainant left the store, walked to her vehicle with her carriage and placed her items into the vehicle. When she turned back to the carriage to get her purse she saw it was missing. She said she didn’t report the theft sooner because she still had her license and the only thing of value in her purse were $135 in WIC coupons.
On Oct. 10, at approximately 3:01 p.m., a woman reported her wallet was stolen from her purse while she was at Stop & Shop. She was shopping in the store when she bumped into a male near the cash registers. The male seemed upset and she quickly apologized. A little later she reached into her purse to get her shopping list and noticed her wallet was missing. The wallet contained cash, several credit cards, bus tickets, her driver’s license and other identification cards totaling $271 all together.
On Oct. 13, at approximately 8:43 a.m., an employee of General Trading on 16th Street reported that he observed an employee, 22-year-old Rolando Villanueva of Passaic, remove $22.75 from another employee’s desk drawer. The complainant said he confronted Villanueva and he admitted he did it. Villanueva was fired and complaints are pending.

On Oct. 15, at approximately 7:46 a.m., a victim reported unknown actors broke the front passenger window of a 1997 Dodge Van parked on Page Avenue. Unknown actors stole a GPS unit valued at $190 and a bag of tools.
On Oct. 14, at approximately 8:08 a.m., a victim reported damage to the door handle and lock cylinder of a 2006 GMC pickup truck parked at the Quality Inn at 10 Polito Ave. The unknown actors gained entry to the truck and stole a Garmin GPS unit valued at $800.
On Oct. 11, at approximately 10:06 a.m., unknown actors punched the driver side door lock on a 2007 Dodge parked at the Courtyard by Marriott at 1 Polito Ave. Nothing was taken and entry was not gained to the vehicle.
On Oct. 10, at approximately 7:59 a.m., unknown actors shattered the lower right window to the glass front door of A & S convenient store at 600 Riverside Ave. The actors did not appear to have gained entry.
On Oct. 8, at approximately 6:09 p.m., unknown actors smashed the passenger side window of a 2005 Nissan while parked at Classics Health Club at 205 Chubb Ave. A laptop valued at $1,500 and a cell phone valued at $150 were stolen.
On Oct. 5, at approximately 4:23 p.m., police arrested 58-year-old Jean Attilio of Lodi for shoplifting from the Shop Rite at 540 New York Avenue. The goods were valued at $18.
On Oct. 5, at approximately 2:20 p.m., an unknown actor stole a blue and black mountain bicycle parked on the side of a Livingston Avenue residence. The bicycle was valued at approximately $100.
On Oct. 5, at approximately 12:11 p.m., unknown actors broke into a 2004 Chevy parked at the Courtyard by Marriott at 1 Polito Avenue. The actors punched the door lock and stole a luggage case containing a portable public address system valued at $600.
On Sept. 29, at approximately 10:05 a.m., police received a report of a burglary to a residence on Third Street. The actor stole jewelry and cash. Subsequent to the burglary, North Arlington police made an arrest for another burglary there. On Oct. 9, Lyndhurst police interviewed the North Arlington suspect on the Lyndhurst burglary at Bergen County Jail and charged him, 33-year-old Zep Padilla of Lyndhurst, with burglary.
North Arlington
On Oct. 5, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a victim reported someone broke into a vehicle on Veterans Place off of Riverview Avenue and stole a Sirius Satellite Radio. The victim parked a 2002 Ford Explorer at 9:30 p.m. the previous night and discovered an unknown actor shattered the driver side window that morning. The radio was valued at approximately $250.
On Oct. 6, at approximately 1:06 a.m., police were dispatched to Morgan Place off of the Belleville Turnpike to investigate the sound of glass breaking. Police located a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a broken passenger side window. Unknown actors stole a Sirius Satellite Radio from the vehicle.
On Oct. 11, at approximately 1:40 p.m., a victim reported parking a 2003 BWM 330 on Fairmount Avenue off of Stevens Place at 1:30 a.m. Upon returning, the victim noticed the vehicle was gone. Newark Police recovered the vehicle on Oct. 12 at 9:55 a.m.

On Oct. 6, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a man reported that someone stole three bikes from in front of his residence on Insley Avenue sometime between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The bikes were valued at about $800 all together.
On Oct. 8, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a student at Felician College reported that an unknown person entered his room and stole a laptop computer sometime between Oct. 7 and the time of the report. The laptop was valued at $1,000. The student noted that the door to the room was unlocked.
On Oct. 10, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an employee at the Stadium Auto Mall reported that a satellite radio had been stolen from a new car in the lot sometime between Oct. 7 and the time of the report. The radio was valued at $2,000.

On Oct. 10, at approximately 1 a.m., an officer effected a motor vehicle check after a car failed to stop at an Ames Avenue stop sign. While checking the vehicle the officer discovered it had an expired license plate and the driver, 20-year-old Sebastian Baquero of Nutley, had two outstanding traffic warrants. While placing Baquero under arrest the officer found him to be in possession of rolling papers and a small amount of marijuana. Baquero was charged with CDS possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS in a vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign. Baquero posted bail for the traffic warrants and was issued a summons.

On Oct. 10, at approximately 10:32 a.m., the owner of Costello & Sons on Washington Avenue reported he noticed the sign and building for his company had been vandalized sometime overnight. Graffiti was found in several places containing the word or name "ASH" and the word "LOST" or "COST."
On Oct. 12, at approximately 7:44 a.m., a woman reported her car was spray-painted sometime overnight while it was parked on Union Street.
Lyndhurst
On Oct. 13, at approximately 11:54 a.m., a victim observed damage to the passenger side door handle of a vehicle parked on Furman Place. Entry was not gained to the vehicle.
On Oct. 5, at approximately 11:35 a.m., a victim reported a large dent in the driver side rear door and a cracked windshield on his 1996 Toyoa while parked on Stuyvesant Avenue.

On Oct. 8, at approximately 11:45 a.m., an officer observed that multiple areas around the Williams Center had been vandalized overnight. The Farmer’s Market sign was knocked down, a branch had been broken off a tree, several patio blocks had been thrown about the area and a small tree had been uprooted.
On Oct. 10, at approximately 4 p.m., a complainant reported that his car was damaged sometime between Oct. 9 and the time of the report. Evidently the car was struck with something, possibly a rock, causing a dent and crack in the paint.

Lyndhurst
On Oct. 13, at approximately 3:59 a.m., police responded to 305 Lyndhurst Ave. on a report of a disturbance in the street. Police observed the men in the roadway, who explained they were foreign exchange students and were lost. Police determined they lived less than one block away from their residence and sent them on their way. One man, 23-year-old Dong Kim of Lyndhurst, kicked a parked car on the driver side tire. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. At headquarters, police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Kim’s breath and transported him to Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus.

On Oct. 12, at approximately 2:24 p.m., a Grant Avenue resident reported receiving a phone call from a man who told her she won $2 million and was going to deliver the money at 3 p.m. The victim received a second phone call, in which the same man said he needed $250 for a delivery fee and her checking account number and bank account number. The victim did not provide the money or the information.
North Arlington
On Oct. 5, at approximately 1136 a.m., a victim reported applying for a $5,000 loan to an online company called Liberty Capital Lending, supposedly located on Broad Street in Boston, MA. The company asked the victim to provide $615 collateral. The victim sent the money to the company via Moneygram on Oct. 3. Since then, the victim has neither heard from the loan company nor received the loan. The Web site no longer exists. The victim contacted Boston police and discovered the address given does not exist.

On Oct. 10, at approximately 3:26 a.m., an employee of Cantar/Polyair Corp. reported someone struck a van while it was parked on Meadow Lane sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. The van sustained damage to the driver side rear panel and the passenger side rear tire and had evidently been moved from its original location by the force of the impact. The employee stated a truck driver had come by asking for directions sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. The complainant didn’t see if the truck hit the van but said video surveillance tapes of the area would be available later that day.
