Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On Sept. 20, at approximately 5:11 p.m., a complainant reported a theft from a 2000 Pontiac Montana while it was parked at Capro Sportswear, located at 341 Michele Place. Missing from the vehicle was a seven-inch Sony TV/VCR valued at $150. Entry was gained by way of breaking the driver’s side window.

 

On Sept. 20, at approximately 1:38 p.m., an employee of Compu-Pak, located at 329 Veterans Blvd., arrived at headquarters to report the theft of a business credit card issued by Bank of America. According to the complainant, the card had been used several times at several different locations between Aug. 24 and Sept. 10.

 

On Sept. 19, at approximately 6:08 a.m., a complainant at GVS Trucking, located at 100B Kero Road, reported the theft of a 1995 Kenworth tractor and attached trailer that contained 298 cartons of boys hooded sweatshirts from Pakistan. Police found that the business was infiltrated through the suspect(s) cutting the gate’s lock with a bolt cutter. The tractor-trailer was immediately placed in the stolen vehicle database and by 12:45 p.m., Moonachie police advised Carlstadt that they had located both. The trailer however was found empty.

 

On Sept. 18, at approximately 8:14 p.m., a complainant from Massachusetts reported a theft to his company’s 2007 Ford while it was parked at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 100 Paterson Plank Road. Entry was gained through a broken passenger’s side front window and stolen were a Garmin Street Pilot 330 GPS system and Hewlett Packard laptop computer. The items were collectively valued at approximately $1,800.

East Rutherford

On Sept. 19, at approximately 9:25 p.m. a complainant from Pennsylvania stated that sometime overnight, an unknown party or parties forced entry into his car by smashing the driver’s side window. Items taken were an IBM T43 laptop computer valued at $2,200 together with its black leather case. The vehicle had been parked at Homestead Village, located at 300 Route 3 East.

North Arlington

On Sept. 14, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a victim reported a break-in to his 2004 Subaru while parked on Rutherford Place near the Belleville Turnpike. Unknown actors stole a Panasonic radio, valued at $400; three television monitors, valued at $200 each and an electronic suspension box, valued at $400. The ignition system had been ripped out in an attempt to steal the vehicle. The victim had placed an advertisement for the sale of the vehicle on eBay and included the amenities and the address where the vehicle was parked.

Rutherford

On Sept. 17, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a man reported a break-in occurred at a house on Ridge Road while the family that resides there was on vacation. The man who reported the break-in is a friend who was asked to watch the house while the family was away. On Sept. 17, he stopped by the house and noticed that a second floor window accessible from a porch roof had been smashed and entry gained. The man said the break-in could have occurred anytime between Aug. 26 and Sept. 17. Though the man said it appeared as though things were missing, police won’t know for certain what and how much was taken until the family arrives home from vacation.

 

On Sept. 15, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a woman on Yahara Avenue reported that she was robbed outside her home after returning from work. The victim drove home from work, parked her car and as she was walking up the steps to her house a man came at her from behind, put a hand over her mouth, pulled away her purse and fled by foot east down Yahara toward Grand Avenue. Nearby residents heard the woman call for help and called 9-1-1. The woman said the assailant was a male around 5 feet 10 inches in height dressed in black. Officers were unable to find the assailant in the surrounding area. The purse contained credit cards, a cell phone and $62 in cash.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On Sept. 17, at approximately 3:53 p.m., a complainant at Harmon’s cosmetic store, located at 675 Paterson Ave., reported that she found her 2004 Dodge Stratus keyed on both sides while it was parked in the business’s parking lot.

East Rutherford

On Sept. 14, at approximately 4:41 a.m., police responded to 63 Bobbink Terrace and spoke to a complainant who stated that an unknown person broke a window on the second floor of his home, with the damage appearing to be produced by a BB gun or pellet gun.

 

On Sept. 19, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a York street complainant and his son stated that someone engraved "MO" on the rear passenger’s door of their vehicle and had dumped what appeared to be tomato sauce over the vehicle sometime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Lyndhurst

On Sept. 17, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a resident parked on the 200-block of Willow Avenue reported that the right rear light on a 2006 Volkswagen had been busted while the left rear light had been cracked.

 

On Sept. 15, at approximately 10:51 a.m., a complainant reported that the front tires on her 2003 Ford had been slashed while it was parked at 63 park Ave.

 

On Sept. 15, at approximately 1:32 a.m., police responded to an alarm at Paradise Liquors, located at 509 Stuyvesant Ave, to find the front glass of the business broken. Police determined that the break would not enable anyone to gain entry and it was confirmed by staff of the business that nothing appeared to be missing from within.

Rutherford

On Sept. 20, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the owner of the Java Station coffee shop at the Rutherford train station reported that someone kicked in a wooden panel on the front door to his shop sometime between 5 and 5:20 a.m. that day. Police reported it didn’t appear as though anyone had gained entry.

 

On Sept. 17, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a man reported that sometime between 8:30 p.m. the day before and the time of the report someone keyed his car on the front passenger’s side door, leaving several large scratches all the way down the side.

 

On Sept. 16, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a man reported that someone had thrown eggs at his car while it was parked on Mortimer Avenue.

DWI

North Arlington

On Sept. 17, at approximately 6:10 p.m., police received a report of an erratic driver travelling westbound on the Belleville Turnpike. They located and stopped the vehicle and believed the driver to be intoxicated upon speaking to him. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 34-year-old John Kartsounas of North Arlington for driving while intoxicated. Police searched the vehicle and found a clear glass vial containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. He was issued summonses for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, driving while intoxicated and driving without insurance. He was processed and released to a responsible party.

Rutherford

On Sept. 21, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on St. Clair Avenue in which a vehicle struck a parked car. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Casey Beaudet of Rutherford, police detected the smell of alcohol on her breath. After failing a field sobriety test, Beaudet was arrested and charged with careless driving and DWI before being released to her father.

Fraud

East Rutherford

On Sept. 20, at approximately 14:04 p.m., a Park Avenue complainant reported that she was contacted by the Bank of America informing her that she owed approximately $25,000 on her credit card. According to the bank, these charges were all from transactions made in Florida, all of which the complainant has no knowledge of and has informed Bank of America of this fact. The complainant contacted the Fraud Unit and Identity Theft Unit of the bank and they have initiated an investigation. The Bank of America advised the complainant to file a police report.

Lyndhurst

On Sept. 18, at approximately 12:14 p.m., a Rutherford resident reported that while she was at work at Sony BMG in town, she had signed onto her AOL account to find an e-mail from Bank of America requesting a verification of her information on her account. The complainant later was notified of a $284 fraudulent charge to her account made by Western Union.

Miscellaneous

Lyndhurst

On Sept. 14, at approximately 10:09 p.m., officers on patrol on Ridge Road ran a random license check on a silver 1998 Lincoln Towncar, but the plates came back that the car was black. Police initiated a stop at the corner of Ridge Road and Page Avenue and the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Pablo Alban of Kearny, handed police of a license of a 33-year-old Jose Rios, listed as 6’1" with a full head of hair. Police looked at Alban and immediately noticed he was balding, looked older and was only 5’11". He admitted to the fake license and was charged with giving false information to law enforcement, failure to exhibit proper documentation and driving while unlicensed.

 

On Sept. 14, at approximately 8:53 p.m., officers on patrol at the Whiskey Café, located 1050 Wall St. West, observed 30-year-old Ronald Dapuzzo of Verona urinating next to his 2005 Honda Civic. He was issued a township ordinance for urinating in public.

Warrants

North Arlington

On Sept. 20, at approximately 12:26 a.m., Kearny police contacted North Arlington about an individual they stopped with a $700 traffic warrant out of North Arlington. Police responded to Kearny and retrieved the man, Brian Johnsen of Kearny. He was released after posting cash bail.

 

On Sept. 18, at approximately 12:50 p.m., officers responded to Hudson County Jail to pick-up Marquise Boyd of Jersey City on a North Arlington traffic warrant for $710. He was processed and transferred to Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

 

On Sept. 17, at approximately 8 p.m., police conducted a routine license plate check and found the driver of the vehicle, Patrick Jerez of North Arlington, to have a suspended license and three active warrants. He was arrested and issued summons for having a fake inspection sticker and failure to have his vehicle inspected. Jerez had a traffic warrant out of East Newark for $89 and two traffic warrants out of North Arlington for $314. He was released after posting cash bail.

 

On Sept. 15, at approximately 1:21 p.m., a bounty hunter brought Christopher Treich, a Demarest man with an active warrant out of North Arlington, to headquarters. Treich had a $1,500 traffic warrant and a $1,000 criminal warrant out of North Arlington and a $500 traffic warrant out of Lyndhurst. He was processed and transferred to Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
