ASSAULT

East Rutherford

On Sept. 12, at approximately 6:44 a.m., a borough resident reported that his cousin’s son, Sean Price, struck him on the left side of his head. The assault was as a result of a complaint about moving Sean’s bed from its original place in the living room to one of the bedrooms. The complainant filed a signed, sworn affidavit against Sean Price for assault, who had fled the scene prior to police arrival at the scene.

Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On Sept. 14, at approximately 8:59 a.m., police arrived to a complaint of a stolen car engine at A and D, located at 501 Route 17 North. Upon speaking to the complainant, he said he had left an engine outside the business to work on it in the future and on Sept. 11, it went missing. Surveillance video revealed that 33-year-old Genoa Sotero of East Rutherford had taken the engine. He told police that he thought it was scrap metal. Charges are pending because Sotero said if he could locate the engine, he would be willing to pay for it.

Lyndhurst

On Sept. 13, at approximately 4:44 a.m., a complainant parked on Tontine Avenue reported the theft of a satellite radio from a 2000 Jeep. Entry was gained by way of shattering the front passenger’s side window.

 

On Sept. 12, at approximately 9:20 a.m., an employee of Kings Distributors reported that he parked his delivery truck in the parking lot of PNC Bank, located at 55 Park Ave., and upon returning found the truck had been broken into. Missing were three boxes of cigarettes, cigars and candy that totaled a $6,000 loss.

 

On Sept. 8, at approximately 8:04 a.m., the manager of 7-Eleven, located at 750 Rutherford Ave., reported that after reviewing surveillance tape from Sept. 5, the tape picked up to males leaving the store with various items they had not paid for. Picked up on the tape, the individuals were seen taking several pair of sunglasses, trail mix, cough drops and an aerosol air-freshener.

North Arlington

On Sept. 12, at approximately 7:03 a.m., a victim reported parking a 2000 Chevy the previous night on Arlington Boulevard near Lorrington Place and, upon returning in the morning, noticed the passenger’s side window to the vehicle had been broken. An unknown actor stole a Fine Drive GPS system, valued at $399, from the vehicle.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 4:13 p.m., a victim reported parking a dark blue GT Bump bicycle in front of the North Arlington Municipal Library at 210 Ridge Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. Upon returning, the victim noticed the bicycle was missing. At approximately 8:45 p.m., an officer witnessed a man riding a bicycle on Ridge Road crossing the Belleville Turnpike. The officer interviewed the man and determined the bicycle was the stolen bicycle from the library. Police arrested 18-year-old Ahmed Alhussein for theft. The bike, which was valued at $321, was returned to the victim and the Alhussein was released on summons.

Rutherford

On Sept. 12, at approximately 8 p.m., a man reported someone broke into his car sometime between 7 and 8 p.m. while it was parked at the corner of Wood Street and Eliot Place and stole a GPS device.

 

On Sept. 12, at approximately 6 p.m., a man from Georgia staying at the Extended Stay Motel on Edwin L. Ward Sr. Memorial Highway reported his cell phone was stolen from his room sometime between Sept. 4 and Sept. 12. The phone was valued at about $100.

 

On Sept. 11, at approximately 8 p.m., a 12-year-old reported his bike was stolen from outside the Rutherford Public Library sometime between 5 and 8 p.m.

 

On Sept. 11, at approximately 8 p.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his car sometime between 5 and 8 p.m. while it was parked on Edgewood Place and stole a $500 GPS device.

 

On Sept. 10, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a complainant reported someone broke into the refreshment stand at Memorial Field and stole several forks, knives and assorted cleaning products.

 

On Sept. 10, at approximately 12:09 p.m., a woman on Stuyvesant Avenue reported a theft. Her husband recently passed away and for the last six months he had been receiving medical care from in-house health aids. She recently noticed that several coins and pieces of jewelry were missing and believes they were taken sometime while the aids were at the residence between March and December of last year.

 

On Sept. 9, at approximately 2:21 p.m., a woman from North Carolina staying at the Renaissance Hotel on Rutherford Avenue reported her boyfriend stayed in her room overnight and when she woke up in the morning a suitcase containing clothes and $3,000 in cash had been stolen. The suitcase was later found in the downstairs lobby with the clothes still there but the cash gone. Their families back in North Carolina have contacted each other, however, the woman didn’t wish to file a complaint.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 15-year-old girl from Carlstadt reported her cell phone was stolen while she was at a friend’s house on West Erie Avenue in Rutherford. She was in the basement of the house with three friends and put her cell phone down on a table. When she returned to the table the phone was gone.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 12 p.m., an attendant at the Delta Gas Station on Park Avenue reported that two days prior, a man attempted to make a purchase of $30 of gasoline with a credit card that wouldn’t work. The man said he didn’t have any cash on him and that he would return to pay the $30. The attendant took down the license plate number of the vehicle the man was driving and the man hasn’t returned since.

Criminal Mischief

Lyndhurst

On Sept. 12, at approximately 4:59 a.m., a resident of the 100-block of Copeland Avenue reported that her 2007 Cadillac CTS had been egged while it was parked in the driveway. The pelting caused a crack on the driver’s side of the windshield.

 

On Sept. 11, at approximately 8:56 p.m., a resident of the 600-block of Ten Eyck Avenue reported damage to his garage door. After further inspection, it appeared that a vehicle had caused the damage, which bent the garage and caused it to come off the tracks.

 

On Sept. 9, at approximately 3:42 p.m., officers arrested 29-year-old Thomas Langione of Watertown, MA, and charged him with disorderly conduct after he allegedly attempted to tip over an occupied portable toilet at 125 Chubb Ave.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 9:48 a.m., a parks department employee reported that a water fountain had been broken off the wall of the Landells Building at Delafield and Court Avenues. The damage was estimated at $300.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 8:41 a.m., a resident of the 300-block of Thomas Avenue reported that six outdoor landscape lights and the wiring to each had been pulled out of the ground along her home’s walkway.

East Rutherford

On Sept. 12, at approximately 10:25 a.m., complainant on the 100-block of Main Street stated that his vehicle had been broken into. The rear window of his car was smashed out of the vehicle, but nothing appeared to have been taken.

 

On Sept. 11, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Norwood, PA complainant reported that sometime during the night an unknown individual used a key to scratch the side of his vehicle.

 

On Sept. 10, at approximately 5:42 p.m., a complainant on the 300-block of Grove Street stated to police that someone had smashed the window of her car. The vehicle was parked on Grove Street, opposite the playground.

 

On Sept. 10, at approximately 10:52 a.m., a complainant stated that sometime overnight someone had damaged her 2007 Honda. The vehicle was keyed and kicked in at the right rear door and quarter panel, causing scratches and a large dent.

 

On Sept. 9, at approximately 11:57 a.m., East Rutherford Police observed a male, Shawn Dowd, 39, of Sharon Hill, PA, attempting to sell Jets football tickets and a parking permit on Route 120. Six Jets tickets were confiscated and Dowd was issued with a summons.

 

On Sept. 9, at approximately 11:10 a.m., police observed two males, Shawn C. Bragg, 40, of the Bronx, and Dennis T. White, 29, of Illinois, attempting to sell Jets tickets on Route 120. Six tickets were confiscated and a summons to both individuals was issued.

Rutherford

On Sept. 10, at approximately 7 a.m., DPW workers reported that two spindles had been kicked out of the gazebo in Lincoln Park.

 

On Sept. 7, at approximately 7 p.m., a woman reported someone let the air out of one of her tires while she was parked along Route 17 South between 2 and 7 p.m.

DWI

Carlstadt

On Sept. 12, at approximately 1:16 a.m., an officer on patrol on Route 17, north of Passaic Avenue, clocked a silver 2000 Honda Accord traveling 71 mph in and 55-mph zone on radar. Subsequent to pulling the vehicle over near the corner of Broad Street and Hoboken Road, the officer smelt a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath. After failing a sobriety test, 31-year-old William Diver of Wallington was arrested and charged with DWI. He was also issued a summons for speeding.

Fraud

Carlstadt

On Sept. 8, at approximately 11:58 a.m., a 9th Street resident reported that he had used his Washington Mutual ATM card on Sept. 7 to withdraw $40 from the branch at 675 Paterson Ave. and forgot the card in the machine. After realizing the card was missing on Sept. 8, he checked his account and found that someone had used the card to withdraw $100.

Public Exposure

Rutherford

On Sept. 7, at approximately 5 p.m., a woman reported that earlier in the day at about 11 a.m. she was waiting at the bus stop at the corner of Ridge Road and East Passaic Avenue. She saw a man parked in a light gray convertible and noticed he was looking at her while holding his exposed genitals. She reported she stood up and walked away.
