Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On July 26, at approximately 4:56 p.m., a complainant at 110 Triangle Blvd. reported the theft of irrigation equipment from the property. In all two rotary heads, one Nelson timer and two water hoses totaling 150 feet in length were stolen. The equipment was valued at $250.

 

 

 

 

On July 26, at approximately 2:42 p.m., a complainant at 350 Michele Place reported the theft of four hubcaps from a 1999 Buick Century. The wheel hubs were valued at $60.

East Rutherford

On July 26, at approximately 12:40 a.m., a complainant on Jersey Street reported hearing an unknown person enter her backyard and steal a black mountain bike before fleeing west on York Street.

 

 

 

 

On July 25, at approximately 6:47 p.m., two laptop computers were reported missing from a display at Staples, located at 250 Route 17 North, with the screws for securing the laptops left behind. The complainant stated the theft must have taken place at approximately 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. when he observed two black males leave the store and get into a two-door black vehicle and head east on East Union Avenue, towards Murray Hill Parkway. The suspects were captured on video. A total of $ 1,350 worth of merchandise was taken. The videotape is being examined.

 

 

 

 

On July 25, at approximately 6:15 p.m. a complainant at the Sheraton Hotel on Meadowlands Plaza Drive reported the theft of an LCD projector valued at $800 belonging to her employer who was staying at the hotel between June 25 and June 26 on business. The projector had been left in a meeting room at the Sheraton on June 28 and when the complainant returned to retrieve it, the projector had vanished.

 

 

 

 

On July 22, a complainant at the Sheraton Hotel on Meadowlands Plaza Drive reported parking his car at around 7 a.m. and later returning to find that the driver’s side door lock had been damaged with approximately $4000 worth of merchandise stolen from the vehicle.

 

 

 

 

On July 22, at approximately 6:44 p.m., the manager of the Homestead Village Hotel, located at 300 Route 3 East, stated that one of the hotel’s patrons had been robbed. The hotel guest later stated that she had met a man on an Internet chat line and arranged to meet him at her room that evening. When the male entered her room, he had a second white male with him, and attempted to rob her. The hotel guest managed to strike one of the men with a frying pan, and they both left the scene on foot only managing to steal a cell phone. Later, the cell phone was recovered in the hotel’s parking lot intact. The hotel guest did not wish to pursue the matter further.

 

On July 22, at approximately 12:12 p.m. a complainant at the Fairfield Inn on Route 120 South reported that someone had broken into his car and had stolen $1950 worth of merchandise and $30 in cash. The dashboard of the vehicle was also reported damaged.

 

 

 

 

On July 21, at approximately 9:21 p.m., a shoplifter was detained at Marshalls on Route 17 South. Cynthia DeLucia, 38, of Glen Rock was arrested for shoplifting a total of $336.70 worth of goods from the store. A summons was issued to DeLucia for shoplifting.

Lyndhurst

On July 26, at approximately 4:04 p.m., a Newton resident reported to police that his wallet had been stolen from a business located at 125 Chubb Ave. The wallet contained credit cards, $20 in cash and a driver’s license. Later in the day, charges began springing up on the credit cards, mostly out of New York City. Police say a suspicious male in his late 40s, wearing glasses and having gray hair is seen on surveillance tape from the Lyndhurst business entering the building behind an employee and walking around as if he worked there. They are still waiting to obtain tape from the businesses where the credit cards were fraudulently used.

 

 

 

 

On July 24, at approximately 1:13 p.m., a complainant at Trylon Railing, located at 136 Park Ave. reported the theft of nine steel sheets that had been stored in front of the business. The total cost of the steel was approximately $720.

 

 

 

 

On July 22, at approximately 5:03 p.m., a resident of the 700-block of New Jersey Avenue reported that a lawn ornament had been stolen from the front lawn. The ornament was a bench with two little people sitting on it and was valued at approximately $60.

North Arlington

On July 24, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a victim reported a Dyno NFX BMX-style bicycle was stolen within the past few days on Harding Avenue off of Morgan Place. The bicycle was valued at approximately $200.

 

 

 

 

On July 26, at approximately 12:01 a.m., employees of businesses near 500 Belleville Turnpike told police of a vehicle that went onto the property and turned its lights off. Police found out four individuals found a stolen wallet in the area of Porete Avenue. Police found 19-year-old Caesar Andrade of Kearny to be in possession of $73 cash from the wallet and a juvenile from Kearny to be in possession of credit cards from the wallet. Both were charged with possession of stolen lost or mislaid property. Police found 18-year-old Steven Lartiga of Lyndhurst to be in possession of a Florida State identification card with his photo, a different name, date-of-birth and social security number that made him 21-year-old. He was charged with possession of fraudulent identification. Eighteen-year-old Brian Infantas of Kearny was found to be in possession of the driver’s license from the wallet and charged with possession of a stolen driver’s license. The owner of the wallet was contacted and was not sure whether he had lost the wallet or if it had been stolen. The adults were released on summonses and the juvenile was released to his parents.

 

 

 

 

On July 26, at approximately 11:43 a.m., police responded to a report of a break-in to a home on Birchwood Drive off of Allan Drive. Unknown actors entered the residence through an unlocked dining room window facing the backyard. The actors broke into a metal lock box and stole $5,000 worth of jewelry and cash. Credit cards stolen from the home were used in Brooklyn, NY later that day.

Rutherford

On July 25, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a man reported a $5,000 diamond ring was stolen from an apartment in a building he owns on Orient Way. The man said the ring could have been taken any time between June 20 and July 25.

 

 

 

 

On July 22, at approximately 10:20 a.m., a red 2004 Honda motorcycle was stolen while it was parked on Union Avenue. The owner said the motorcycle must have been stolen sometime between 2 and 10 a.m.

CDS

East Rutherford

On July 22, at approximately 1:02 p.m., retired police officer, Captain Donald Rock of Wallington, witnessed a shoplifting at the CVS Pharmacy on Paterson Avenue. Rock observed a male leaving the CVS with a white shopping bag filled with merchandise and carrying a red CVS basket. Rock then followed a vehicle into Carlstadt, which was owned and operated by MaryAnn Vitale, 48, of Totowa, and also occupied by two males. The vehicle was stopped and $50 worth of merchandise from CVS was discovered in the trunk. Vitale stated that 43-year-old John C. Olejnik of Paterson, one of the male occupants, stole the merchandise from CVS and that she knew nothing about it. Upon running the vehicle’s registration, it was discovered that Vitale had an outstanding ATS warrant out of West Paterson. At this time, Vitale was transported to police headquarters. Olejnik was questioned about the theft at the scene and admitted to stealing the merchandise. He was arrested and transported to headquarters where he admitted to having a hypodermic needle in his shoe, located in his right sock. A search of Vitale’s purse revealed a glass pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. Vitale was charged and summonsed for possession of drug paraphernalia. Olejnik was charged with shoplifting and possession of a hypodermic needle. Both Vitale and Olejnik were later released ROR.

Rutherford

On July 21, at approximately 10:20 a.m., an officer observed a car speeding on Rutherford Avenue and eventually effected a motor vehicle stop on Route 3 West. The officer noticed the driver, 47-year-old Murray Giardelli of Little Falls, seemed intoxicated. During a search of the vehicle officers found cocaine, drug paraphernalia, a small handgun and a rifle with the serial number scratched off. Giardelli was charged with CDS possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and illegal weapons possession.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On July 24, at approximately 4:27 p.m., complainants at the Phoenix Communications Group reported that 60 feet of fence enclosing the company’s property on Terminal Lane had been damaged and removed. Once within the fence, vandals had cut cable ties that support several cables to satellite dishes.

 

 

 

 

On July 24, at approximately 12:38 p.m., Carlstadt Public School Principal Steven Kollinok reported that two second floor windows had been broken. Inside the classroom, a baseball, apples and a rock were found on the floor. Later that night, at approximately 11:16 p.m., police responded to a complaint of six individuals with bats outside 437 Broad St. The actors, a mix of juveniles and adults were questioned about the incident earlier in the day, but nobody admitted to breaking the windows. Police are still investigating and charges are pending.

East Rutherford

On July 20, at approximately 11:01 a.m. residents of a home on White Terrace returned home to find their house pelted with eggs.

North Arlington

On July 22, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a victim reported hearing air escaping the tires of his silver 2007 Chevy while at his Morgan Place home near Inman place. He checked his vehicle to find the front right tire had been punctured.

 

 

 

 

On July 25, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a victim reported unknown actors made a large scratch to the right rear corner panel of his Mitsubishi while it was parked on Third Street off of Union Avenue over night.

Rutherford

On July 25, at approximately 7:30 a.m., three cars on Wilson Avenue were found covered with gold spray paint. The spray paint covered the entire driver’s side door of one car and the trunk of another, causing extensive damage.

 

On July 24, at approximately 5 p.m., a person on Feronia Way reported that a first floor window of their home was broken with a pellet from a BB gun.

 

On July 24, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a man on Feronia Way reported that a second floor window of his home had been broken by a pellet from a BB gun. The man said it could have happened anytime between Sunday and Tuesday.

 

 

 

 

On July 24, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a person on Washington Avenue reported his car’s side rearview mirror had been bent back and broken off. Another car nearby also had its mirror broken off.

DWI

Carlstadt

On June 25, at approximately 11:50 p.m., police on patrol witnessed a 2008 Hyundai Sonoma pull from Redd’s Restaurant and subsequently change lanes without using a turn signal. After pulling over the vehicle near the corner of Washington Avenue and Barrell Avenue, the officer spoke with the driver who claimed he had left his license at the office. The officer also detected the odor of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath. After failing a sobriety test, 44-year-old Udo Lange of Littleton, CO was arrested and charged with DWI. He was also issued summonses for careless driving, failure to produce a driver’s license, making improper U-turn and failure to signal.

North Arlington

On July 26, at approximately 4:31 p.m., officers on patrol observed a 1999 Ford Explorer with multiple objects on the dashboard obstructing the driver’s view riding on the double-yellow line and constantly hitting the brakes. Police stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. Police saw several open Budweiser beer cans and bottles of Absolut Vodka in the front seat area. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 71-year-ol Gyula Csordas of Belleville for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to a responsible party.

 

Miscellaneous

Lyndhurst

On July 22, at approximately 2:21 a.m., an officer reported witnessing 25-year-old Bartomiej Wojciechowski of Trenton urinating in the parking lot of King’s Court on Riverside Avenue. Wojciechowski was subsequently issued a township ordinance for urinating in public.

 

Warrants

Carlstadt

On July 26, at approximately 6 a.m., police clocked a vehicle on driven by 28-year-old Joseph Thomas of Piscataway going 45 in a 25-mph speed zone. After pulling the vehicle over near the corner of Commerce Road and Central Blvd., an inquiry of Thomas revealed he had a suspended license and an active warrant of $106 out of his hometown. Thomas was issued summonses for speeding and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

East Rutherford

On July 23, at approximately 2:57 p.m. police officers were investigating an accident at Enoch Street and Hoboken Road when they determined that one of the drivers involved, Donald C. Gibson, 49, of Weehawken had an active $1500 warrant. Gibson posted bail and was issued two summonses.
