Burglary/Theft

East Rutherford

On Nov. 6, at approximately 10:14 a.m., a DeWarren man reported that after spending about 10 minutes inside BJ’s Wholesale Club, he returned to his vehicle to find his rear lock punched out and several power tools missing from his vehicle.

On Nov. 2, at approximately 11:43 a.m., an Ohio man reported the theft of several computers and computer components from his white Ford van while it was parked at the Homestead Village on Route 3 East.

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 3, at approximately 8:02 a.m., a complainant reported the theft of a 1995 Nissan that had been parked on the 700-block of Sixth Street.

On Nov. 2, at approximately 8:17 a.m., a complainant from Bel Air, MA reported the theft of approximately $340 of personal items from a 2006 Dodge while it was parked in the lot at the Courtyard by Marriott on Polito Avenue. Entry to the vehicle was made by punching the driver’s side door lock.

North Arlington

On Nov. 4, at approximately 1:24 a.m., police received a complaint from Molly’s Bar and Grill at 26 Ridge Road. A victim claimed a "Juicy Girl" wallet valued at $150 and containing $171 cash, a driver’s license and a MAC card was stolen. At around the same time, police questioned an individual at the municipal parking lot on the Belleville Turnpike found attempting to open car doors. When approached, the man, 22-year-old Tommy Heredia, had his hand in his right pocket in an attempt to conceal something. Police conducted a warrant check and found Heredia had a $500 criminal warrant out of Newark. A search revealed he had the "Juicy Girl" wallet belonging to the victim. He was charged with theft of the wallet and possession of stolen property.

On Nov. 2, at approximately 7 a.m., a victim reported parking a 1993 Infiniti J30 on Boston Avenue off of Riverview Avenue the previous evening and, upon returning, found it missing.

Rutherford

On Nov. 10, at approximately 8:10 a.m., a complainant reported someone entered his 1996 Toyota by smashing its passenger’s side vent window while it was parked along Ridge Road. There was damage to the ignition apparently done with a screwdriver and an mp3 player valued at $90 was reported stolen.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 7:14 a.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his 1996 Chevrolet by smashing the read passenger’s window while it was parked along Ridge Road. The ignition was also reported damaged.

On Nov. 10, at approximately 7:13 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. someone stole his 1997 Toyota while it was parked on Riverside Avenue.

On Nov. 8, at approximately 10:25 a.m., a complainant reported someone pried open the driver’s side door of his 2005 Chevrolet while it was parked at the Extended Stay Motel and stole a $1,000 GPS device, a $500 radar detector and a gym bag with clothing in it.

On Nov. 8, at approximately 12:36 a.m., a complainant reported someone smashed the front passenger’s side window of his 2004 Suzuki while it was parked on Sylvan Street and stole a leather jacket and a $550 GPS device.

On Nov. 5, at approximately 4:01 p.m., a student at the Pierrepont School reported that sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. his bike was stolen from the rear of the school.

On Nov. 4, at approximately 5:27 p.m., a Chestnut Street resident reported that sometime between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. someone entered the front door of their home, which was locked, and stolen a Sony laptop computer valued at $3,000.

On Nov. 4, at approximately 11:21 a.m., an attendant at the Lukoil station on Route 17 North reported a 20 to 30-year-old male with dark skin in a red Ford wagon pulled up, asked for a fill-up and the fled on north on Route 17 without paying.

On Nov. 1, at approximately 1:38 p.m., a complainant reported that he parked his 1997 Dodge at the Renaissance Hotel parking lot 10 minutes prior, went inside and when he came back out, the car was missing.

DWI

East Rutherford

On Nov. 4, at approximately 11:12 p.m., police received report of a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 3 in the vicinity of Giants Stadium. At the scene the found 30-year-old Joseph Palo of Newark standing outside his overturned vehicle. Palo claimed that he had lost control of the car after swerving to avoid a broken down car in the left lane. On interacting with Palo, police detected the odor of alcohol. Due to injuries Palo sustained, he could not perform standardized field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for DWI and transferred to Hackensack Medical center for blood tests.

On Nov. 2, at approximately 1:19 a.m., an officer on stationary radar observed the vehicle of 24-year-old Andre Holloman of Manhattan traveling 91 mph in a 55-mph zone of Route 3 West. When the officer activated his lights to stop the vehicle, it jerked suddenly to the left and nearly struck the center divider before coming to a stop in the left lane. Once stopped, Holloman failed to produce the vehicle’s paperwork, and the officer noticed an unsealed bottle of tequila in the passenger seat. Officers further detected the odor of alcohol on Holloman’s breath along with watery, bloodshot eyes. A number of standardized field sobriety tests were administered, all of which produced hits for intoxication. Holloman was placed under arrest and a pair of Breathalyzer tests revealed a blood-alcohol concentration of .15%.

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 7, at approximately 1 a.m., police effected a motor vehicle stop near the corner of Kingsland and Riverside Avenues after seeing the vehicle cross the double yellow line and witnessed the driver not wearing a seatbelt. Upon further investigation, the driver, 26-year-old Jessica Perez of Paterson, was placed under arrest and charged with DWI. Perez was also issued summonses for failure to wear a seatbelt and careless driving.

On Nov. 5, at approximately 10:09 p.m., police initiated a motor vehicle stop near the corner of Ridge Road and Union Avenue and subsequent to investigating, arrested the driver, 43-year-old Yovany Tamargo of Wood-Ridge, and charged him with DWI. He was also issued summonses for driving with an expired registration and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

North Arlington

On Nov. 2, at approximately 3:02 a.m., police observed a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer exiting the Arlington Diner at River Road and the Belleville Turnpike and nearly strike four cars. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 41-year-old Armindo Alves of North Arlington. After detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police asked him to exit the vehicle. He almost fell several times and could not satisfactorily complete a field sobriety test. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded. He was processed and released to a responsible party on summonses.

CDS

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 1, at approximately 2:02 a.m., police stopped a vehicle near the corner of Riverside and Kingsland Avenues after seeing that it had been driving on a flat tire. Upon speaking to the driver, 40-year-old Richard Petroski of North Arlington, police found him to be in possession of a glass vile with what appeared to be cocaine. Police also determined that Petroski was under the influence. He was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI, possession of CDS and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. He was also issued a summons for careless driving.

Warrants

Lyndhurst

On Nov. 7, at approximately 8:28 a.m., police investigating a suspicious van on Anthony Court were told by the driver that he had to go to his home on Prospect Place to retrieve his identification after police asked for it. After getting to the residence, the man, later identified as 40-year-old Ivan Chavez, did not come out and police soon realized he fled. He was later located in Nutley and brought in for processing. Initially, Chavez had given police his brother’s name and it was found that both the van and the home belonged to his brother. Chavez was found to have three warrants totaling $625 out of Newark. He was charged at headquarters with providing false information, driving while suspended, driving while unlicensed, using a motor vehicle without permission and eluding police. Police say charges are pending for theft after Chavez’s brother realized tools from the back of the van were also missing.
