Arrest
East Rutherford
On July 8, at approximately 12:50 p.m., the Lodi Police Department issued a broadcast referring to a stolen truck traveling on Route 17 South. An officer immediately responded to the location and eventually spotted a truck answering to the description on Route 17 South entering Rutherford and heading towards Lyndhurst. The officer activated his overhead lights and siren but the vehicle didn’t stop. At the Polito Avenue intersection the officer used the public address system to tell the driver to cease operating the vehicle, which he did. Rutherford and Lyndhurst police arrived to assist. The officers instructed the driver, 37-year-old Ronald J. Tiberio of Paterson, to exit the vehicle with his hands displayed and lie down on the ground with his chest and hands flat on the pavement. Tiberio was arrested and transported to the Bergen County Jail.

On July 12, at approximately 3:31 p.m., a man on Triangle Boulevard called to report copper wire had been stolen from his apartment.
On July 10, at approximately 8:36 p.m., a man came to headquarters to report his ATM card and $300 had been stolen.
On July 6, at approximately 1:52 p.m., a man on Monroe Street called to report that when his daughter arrived home she found the rear door of the house open.
On July 6, at approximately 10:46 a.m., a man on Veterans Boulevard called to report the theft of $100.
East Rutherford
On July 8, at approximately 8:37 p.m., an officer responded to a residence on Grant Street. A couple reported that they had entertained two male friends on July 4, between 4 and 10 p.m., and a few hours after the friends left they noticed $2,300 had been taken from their bedroom. The two complainants said they had verbally confronted the two males but they both denied knowledge of the event.
On July 8, at approximately 6:11 p.m., a man stated that sometime during the past week someone removed a stone statue of a dog from the front porch of his house.
On July 6, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a complainant reported that baseball equipment was stolen from his vehicle while he was parked next to the storage shed at Riggins Field. $750 in equipment was stolen.
North Arlington
On July 9, at approximately 8 a.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle theft from American Auto Parts at 12 River Road. The owner told police a 1990 black Chevy Blazer containing $600 in auto parts was stolen from the company parking lot between July 7 at 3 p.m. and July 9 at 8 a.m. On July 10, the vehicle was recovered in Kearny.
On July 12, at approximately 2:05 a.m., a victim reported returning to the municipal parking lot at 37 Ridge Road, beneath Melray’s furniture store, and found the 2005 Infiniti G35 had been broken into. The driver side door lock was broken and an actor entered the vehicle and stole wheel locks and several music CDs, valued at a total of about $125.
On July 12, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the owner of Dunn’s Liquors at 374 Belleville Turnpike reported a shoplifting. The owner said a 6-foot-tall white man wearing blue jeans and an aqua shirt entered the store at 11:30 a.m. and looked at liquor bottles. The owner observed the actor place a $168 bottle of Johnny Walker Blue down the front of his pants. When the owner confronted the actor, the actor ran out of the door to a blue Oldsmobile and fled east on the Belleville Turnpike. The owner provided the actor’s license plate and video surveillance to police. Further investigation led police to 40-year-old Chrispoher Leonardis of Woodbridge. Police issued a warrant for his arrest.

On July 5, at approximately 4:57 p.m., a woman on Addison Avenue reported an unknown person had obtained her checking account number and paid a $550 T-Mobile phone bill under the name Valerie Johnson. Bank of America closed the account and continues to investigate.
On July 5, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a summer school student at St. Mary’s reported leaving a cell phone on a cement wall for five minutes. When he returned, the phone, worth $199, had been stolen.
On July 5, at approximately 6:17 p.m., police received reports of a 14-year-old male with blond hair and a black T-shirt walking north on Union Avenue, carrying a street sign. Officers responded to the location, but were unable to locate the subject. They confirmed the street sign at Union and Grand avenues had been stolen, and while they were out, also determined the street sign for Vanderburgh and Hastings avenues was also missing.
On July 9, at approximately 9:27 a.m., police responded to 25 Borough Street after receiving reports that a stolen 18-wheeler had been located. Witnesses reported seeing a white male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, exit the 1999 Freightliner between 5:30 and 6 a.m. and get into a small black car. The rig, which had been stolen out of Suffolk County in New York, contained $120,000 worth of wire.
On July 9, at approximately 3:29 p.m., a manager at Rite Aid told police he had spotted a female juvenile placing a makeup brush, lip gloss and mascara in her pockets. Officers detained the girl and released her to her mother pending a juvenile complaint.
On July 10, at approximately 10:39 a.m., a resident on Edgewood Place reported unknown persons had cashed two checks worth $1,230 in his Bank of America account, only to quickly withdraw them. The persons then wrote two more checks for the account worth a total of $980. Police are still investigating.
On July 10, at approximately 4:28 p.m., a juvenile at the Rutherford High School swimming pool reported unknown persons had entered his locker at the facility and stolen two gift cards worth $125, his wallet containing $20 cash, and a $300 cell phone.
On July 11, at approximately 9 a.m., a woman on Ridge Road reported someone had entered her bedroom and stolen a $10,000 diamond ring. There were no signs of forced entry, and nothing else was taken. Police are still investigating.
On July 12, at approximately 5:40 p.m., a woman reported unknown parties had entered her 2004 Honda parked on Grove Street and removed her purse. She said her credit card company immediately informed her that her cards were being used to make purchases. The suspects charged $200 at the Lowes in East Rutherford and $1,328 at other stores before having a $400 charge denied at Home Depot. Police are reviewing surveillance footage of the suspects taken at the stores.

On July 12, at approximately 6:05 p.m., an officer observed a car improperly pass another vehicle on Paterson Avenue. The officer activated his lights and siren, but the driver continued on Paterson Avenue and made an illegal left into the parking lot of Food Basics in Wallington. The driver immediately exited his vehicle after parking. The officer ordered the driver, 54-year-old Harold Ward of Passaic, to return to the vehicle. Ward got back into the car, leaned out the door and placed an open can of beer on the ground. The officer saw a passenger in the car and several other open containers of alcohol. Ward said he didn’t know who the passenger was and that he was dropping him off somewhere in East Rutherford. A computer check revealed that Ward’s license was suspended. While removing the alcohol from the car, officers observed a white rock substance suspected to be crack cocaine on an open ashtray. Both Ward and the passenger, a juvenile, denied ownership. Officers also found another large white rock in the open beer can Ward had placed on the ground. Ward was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute. The passenger was issued a juvenile delinquency complaint.

On July 13, at approximately 10:30 a.m., someone on Third Street called police headquarters to report damage to the windows at the Washington School.
On July 8, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a man on Union Street called to report his car had been vandalized.
East Rutherford
On July 12, at approximately 8:32 a.m., a complainant on Herrick Street stated that sometime overnight someone pelted his car with eggs.
On July 9, at approximately 11:32 p.m., an officer responded to Prospect Terrace where a man reported his car had been pelted with eggs. The man pointed out a vehicle he suspected had been involved in the incident. The officer spoke with three teenage girls in the car. They denied knowing who had thrown eggs at the man’s car but when they were questioned why they were driving down Prospect Terrace they said they were going to drop someone off in Carlstadt. The officer advised them that Carlstadt is in the opposite direction and that they should stay away from the area to avoid further problems.
On July 9, at approximately 9:16 a.m., a man on Herrick Street stated he went away on vacation with his family, and when he returned over $125 in lawn ornaments had been stolen from his front yard.
On July 6, at approximately 10:55 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a portable toilet at the Uhland Street Park had been knocked over on its side. The DPW was contacted.
North Arlington
On July 11, at approximately 8 a.m., a victim stated an unknown actor keyed her 2003 Ford Focus while it was parked overnight on Brandenburg Place. The key marks ran the entire length of the driver side of the vehicle.
On July 9, officers were dispatched to the area of Brandenburg Place and Sixth Street on a report of damage to motor vehicles. Police found key marks along the length of a 2005 Ford pickup and a 2006 Ford Escape along the length of the passenger side of the vehicles. Neighbors notified police of key marks on a 2005 Ford Escort, a Mercury Mountaineer and a 2002 Dodge Minivan, also along the passenger sides. Police checked the area and found a 2004 Mazda MZ3 with a number of scratches on the driver side of the vehicle.
On July 10, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to Brandenburg Place on a report of key marks to a vehicle made over the past two days.
On July 10, a victim reported damage to a 1998 Buick La Sabre on Boston Avenue off of Riverview Avenue. Unknown actors made scratches in various locations on the front hood with a key.
On July 11, at approximately 1:13 p.m., a victim on Fifth Street made a report of a seconding keying to a 2007 Volkswagon Jetta parked in front of the residence. Unknown actors made scratches with a key on both passenger side doors. The first keying occurred several weeks ago.
On July 11, at approximately 3:46 p.m., a resident of 17 Union Avenue said a vehicle was keyed between 2:45 am. and 6:30 a.m.
On July 11, at approximately 6:24 p.m., unknown actors keyed a 2007 Mercury and a 2003 Ford while parked in the area of 17 Union Avenue between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. The Mercury had key marks on the tailgate and the Ford had key marks on the passenger side by the front and rear doors.
On July 12, at approximately 1:38 p.m., a victim on Eckhartt Terrace said unknown actors threw rocks at a 2005 Acura and damaged the paint.

On July 7, at approximately 8:10 a.m., a resident reported a 2005 Mazda parked on Clark Avenue had been pelted with raw eggs sometime during the night.
On July 7, at approximately 10:59 a.m., a resident on West Gouverneur Avenue reported unknown persons smeared mustard all over a 1997 Chevrolet parked at the location.
On July 7, at approximately 11 a.m., a resident on West Gouverneur Avenue reported a 2006 Honda had been sprayed with mustard sometime during the night.
On July 13, at approximately 11 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed unknown persons had spray-painted "WCK" in black paint on the side of a business on 185 Park Avenue.
DWI
North Arlington
On July 13, at approximately 1:31 a.m., officer on patrol observed a vehicle on the Bellevile Turnpike near River Road crossing the double-yellow lines. Police stopped the vehicle, detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and asked the driver, 25-year-old Jimmy Yerovi of Newark, to perform field sobriety tests. After failing to satisfactorily complete the tests, police arrested Yerovi for driving while intoxicated. A warrant check found Yerovi to have a $5,000 active criminal warrant out of Newark. His vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Newark Police Department after processing for the warrant.

On July 9, at approximately 10:56 p.m., a man called headquarters to report that money was taken out of his bank account without his authorization.
East Rutherford
On July 7, at approximately 9:23 a.m., an officer responded to BJ’s Wholesale Club where a customer had attempted to purchase merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill. The customer said he got the bill from a bank ATM. The bill was confiscated and forwarded to the detective bureau.
Harassment
East Rutherford
On July 11, at approximately 1:30 p.m., two complainants responded to headquarters with copies of harassing letters and audio recordings of harassing voicemail messages left by 51-year-old Mitchell Poller of Caldwell. According to the complainants the messages stem from a problem that has been ongoing for some time. Both complainants filed sworn affidavits against Poller.

East Rutherford
On July 10, at approximately 6:52 p.m., officers responded to the Poplar Street side of the abandoned Sequa property where three male juveniles were skateboarding on the fenced in property. Officers ordered the juveniles to exit the property and transported them to headquarters.
