Della looked at to be team leader

(by Edward Kensik - August 13, 2008)

The first steps for the fall football season is being done during the summer with the traditional 7-on-7’s and one team that is looking for some new faces is North Arlington head coach Anthony Marck.

"You can’t talk about rebuilding," said Marck who is heading into his third season as head coach of the Vikings. "You can only bring that up with a new coach. I want to win every game."

Last Saturday, North Arlington was at Morristown-Beard with 8 to 12 teams that they competed against while the Vikings also did 7-on-7’s at Kearny, against Pequannock and at Belleville.

While some of the other teams in the BCSL National were hurt by graduation like Becton, Harrison and Wallington, North Arlington was hurt severely by graduation with the likes of quarterback Ryan Kenny, running backs Dawys German and Anthony Orovio along with offensive/defensive lineman Michael Gross all graduating.

"I can just go down the list of names that have graduated," said Marck.

North Arlington finished its season at 5-5 after defeating Harrison, 8-6, in the traditional Thanksgiving week game.

North Arlington’s entire backfield would be basically brand new with a new quarterback under center with Kenny graduated and a pair of running backs in German and Orovio graduated.

Marck said that there are two underclassmen who are in the running to start the first game of the season at quarterback in junior Andrew Frazao and sophomore Taylor Frato, who is the brother of Alex Frato who was on the team a couple of years ago.

The top running back expected to be senior Rob Della, who did get several carries when the ball was not handed off to German. "We’re expecting a lot from him especially leadership since he is one of the few seniors," said Marck. "We’re expecting him to carry the load for us."

After Della, Marck is looking for some carries this coming season and for the future from sophomore running back Sammy Viana. "We’re looking for a lot from him in the next couple of years."

North Arlington 8 Harrison 6

The Vikings finished their season at .500 as the Vikings defeated rival Harrison, in the BCSL National division contest last Wednesday on Thanksgiving Eve. The game returned to its annual slot after the game was played in the first week of the 2006 season because of scheduling problems. Senior quarterback Ryan Kenny ran over from one yard out in the second quarter. Senior running back Dawys German ran in for the two-point conversion for an 8-0 North Arlington lead. While Harrison scored in the fourth quarter, the North Arlington defense stopped the Blue Tide from making the two-point conversion and hold on for the victory.
