Burglary/Theft
Lyndhurst
On July 4, at approximately 10:01 p.m., police responded to Kween Bee Laundry, located at 53 Ridge Road, for the report of a theft. Upon arrival, the owner of the business told police that someone had pried open two dryers and extracted between $30 to $40 in quarters from the change trays.
On June 30, at approximately 1:23 p.m., police arrived at Angelo’s Restaurant, located at 263 Ridge Road, for the report of an apparent burglary that had taken place sometime the night before. Upon arrival, police were told that a total of 24 bottle of liquor valued at $720 had been taken from the bar. An additional $20 in change had also been stolen from the register and a small radio was missing from a back room. Police found no apparent signs of forced entry to the eatery and the crime is still under investigation.
North Arlington
On June 29, at approximately 2:46 p.m., a victim on Morgan Place off of the Belleville Turnpike reported leaving her apartment building at 8 a.m. Upon returning at 2:40 p.m., the victim saw the contents of the dressers in the apartment spilled onto the bed. The actors entered the apartment through the front door and stole approximately $1600 worth of jewelry.
On July 3, at approximately 9:35 a.m., a victim reported parking a 2005 Infiniti on Crystal Street off of High Street the previous night. Upon returning, the victim observed damage to the driver’s side door lock. Unknown actors entered the vehicle and stole 70 music CDs, valued at $750.
On July 5, at approximately 9 a.m., a victim reported parking a 2004 Chevy truck on Garden Terrace off of Ridge Road at 10:15 p.m. the previous night. Upon returning the following morning, the victim observed the driver’s side window had been smashed out and a Fine Drive 400 GPS system, valued at approximately $350, was stolen.
On July 6, at approximately 12 a.m., officers were dispatched to Super Food Town at 1 Schuyler Ave. on a report of a shoplifting. Police met the manager, who observed 32-year-old Isabelle Hayman of North Arlington acting suspicious. The manager watched her place multiple items of food in her purse, valued at $15.05. Upon attempting to exit the store, the manager confronted Hayman and contacted police. She was placed under arrest for shoplifting, processed and released on a summons.

On June 28, at approximately 12 a.m., a woman on Route 17 reported unknown persons had obtained her credit card information and used it to purchase $9,800 in airline tickets from US Air, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines. The tickets were for travel between JFK Airport and Indiana and Georgia.
On June 30, at approximately 5 p.m., a woman at Rutherford Senior Manor reported an unknown person entered her apartment and stole $4,500 worth of jewelry sometime over the last two days. There were no signs of forced entry.
On July 2, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a complainant on Wood Street reported an unknown person used the complainant’s credit card information to make $628 in purchases online from stores like Old Navy and Best Buy.

On July 3, at approximately 10:42 p.m., an officer on Carlton Avenue observed two males, 27-year-old Anthony Salernitano and 19-year-old Cody Ochiuzzo, both of East Rutherford, urinating next to a car parked on the side of the road. The officer stopped and informed them they would both be receiving summonses for public nudity. While speaking to them the officer saw a woman in the passenger seat of the car. She appeared nervous and was crying and shaking. The officer asked what was wrong and the woman didn’t respond. Upon asking a second time if there was something in the vehicle that was making her nervous the woman produced a plastic baggy from under the seat filled with what appeared to be cocaine. The woman said Salernitano had given it to her to hold while he and Ochiuzzo stepped out of the vehicle and Salernitano confirmed it. Salernitano was placed under arrest and charged with public nudity and CDS possession. Ochiuzzo was issued a summons for public nudity. The woman was released.
Rutherford
On July 3, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Rutherford police detectives noticed a group of four juveniles rolling what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette at the train station. They followed the juveniles as they got in a car, conducting a traffic stop on Ridge Road. The detectives reportedly found marijuana in the vehicle and brought all four juveniles, three boys from Hasbrouck Heights and one girl from Rutherford, into the station. They were released to their parents pending juvenile complaints.

East Rutherford
On July 5, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a complainant stated sometime on the evening of the previous day someone punched out the driver’s side door lock of his car. However, no one appeared to have entered the vehicle.
On July 2, at approximately 10:39 a.m., a man reported someone overturned a portable toilet at the Uhland Street park. The DPW responded and turned it back upright. The toilet company was called to clean up.
On June 30, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a man stated someone threw an alcohol bottle at the back window of his company van on Herrick Street. The window was broken. Police searched the area but no one was found.
Lyndhurst
On June 29, a complainant reported parking a 2006 Nissan on the roadway near the vicinity of 336 New York Ave. and upon returning, found that someone had scratched the entire length of the left side of the vehicle with a sharp object.
Rutherford
On July 3, at approximately 8 a.m., a complainant reported unknown persons damaged a 2002 Saturn parked on West Gouverneur Avenue by egging it. No entry was gained to the vehicle.
On July 3, at approximately 7 p.m., a complainant on Morse Avenue reported an unknown person broke a two square foot pane of glass out of a storm door on the residence. No entry was gained.

Lyndhurst
On July 4, at approximately 1:49 a.m., an officer traveling along Ridge Road near the corner of 2nd Avenue witnessed a 2006 Honda traveling at a high rate of speed travel the opposite way past him. The vehicle was also observed swerving over the double yellow lines. The officers stopped the vehicle near Ridge Road and Union Avenue and once talking to the driver, detected the odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. Subsequent to sobriety tests, 53-year-old Frank Roes of Saddle River was arrested and charged with DWI. He was also issued a summons for unclear license plates.
North Arlington
On July 4, at approximately 12:43 a.m., officers on patrol heard excessively loud music coming from a vehicle on Ridge Road. Police stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 30-year-old Tomasz Robieniek of North Arlington for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded and he was processed and released to a responsible party.
Rutherford
On July 4, at approximately 9 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at Jackson and Union Avenues. While one vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, another vehicle, driven by 68-year-old Elizabeth resident Tyrone Pegeise, rear-ended it. Police reportedly detected alcohol on Pegeise’s breath and conducted a field sobriety test, followed by a Breathalyzer test at the police station. He was issued summonses for DWI and careless driving, then released to a responsible party.

On July 2, at approximately 3:06 p.m., a man came to headquarters to report his credit card number was used without his consent on several occasions to make over $700 in purchases.

East Rutherford
On June 29, at approximately 9:15 p.m., an officer observed a 50-foot length of firecrackers exploding on the sidewalk near Riggins Field. Officers spoke with a group of individuals nearby. One of them, 36-year-old Joseph F. Malone of Belleville, said he had ignited the fireworks and was watching them from a distance. Malone was placed under arrest and issued a summons for possession of fireworks.
Lyndhurst
On July 4, at approximately 9:36 p.m., police issued a township ordinance for drinking in public to 32-year-old township resident John Wardell. Police said they witnessed Wardell consuming Natural Ice beer near the corner of Ridge Road and Freeman Street.
On July 1, at approximately 3:39 a.m., police observed 53-year-old Sammy Dubourg of Belleville exit his parked vehicle at the Exxon gas station on Riverside Avenue, walk over to the parking lot of King’s Court and begin urinating. Dubourg was quickly stopped by police and issued a township ordinance for urinating in public. He was released at the scene.
