Assault

East Rutherford

On June 26, at approximately 2:32 a.m., a complainant on Orchard Street reported arriving home from work when she saw a man standing in front of her door. The victim said the man choked her and pushed her into the brick wall, then left the area. The victim said the man did not attempt to enter the apartment, take anything from her or say anything during the incident. The man was described as approximately 6-foot tall, heavy set, in his mid-30s and with a brown complexion. He was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. Officers checked the area, but could not locate the individual.

Rutherford

On June 24, at approximately 10:10 p.m., a Rutherford juvenile’s parents allege that their child was assaulted in Williams Plaza. Another teenager reportedly slapped the juvenile on the head twice and then grabbed him by the shoulders and pushed him. Five days later, the juvenile was reportedly riding his bicycle on Park Avenue when the same teenager grabbed him by the shoulders and threatened to beat him up. Police arrested 19-year-old Michael DeCarlo on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was issued summonses and released.

Burglary/Theft

Carlstadt

On June 27, at approximately 12:33 p.m., two employees at Sure Fire and Security Co., located at 580 Gotham Pkwy., reported the theft of two cell phones that had been left on a pushcart in the business. The employees told police that outside companies had been in the building doing renovations.

East Rutherford

On June 25, at approximately 9:51 a.m., a man reported that someone broke into his Cadillac Escalade parked on Murray Hill Parkway sometime between 11:30 p.m. the previous night and 9:45 a.m. that morning by punching in the driver’s side door lock. A $2,000 GPS system and a $200 iPod were stolen from the vehicle.

On June 23, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a man stated someone broke into his car while it was parked at Homestead Village on Route 3 East. The driver’s side door lock was damaged and a $350 GPS system was stolen.

On June 23, at approximately 9:15 a.m., a man reported someone broke into a van he operates for his business while it was parked at Homestead Village on Route 3 East. The side door lock was damaged and work equipment was stolen.

On June 23, at approximately 7:50 a.m., a man reported someone broke into his rental car while it was parked at the Sheraton Hotel. The driver’s side door lock had been forced open and a $1,500 GPS system was stolen.

On June 28, at approximately 4:17 p.m., a complainant reported a bicycle was stolen from Riggins Field. The red Easton 20-inch bicycle, valued at $400, had been chained to a bicycle rack in the field.

On June 24, at approximately 9:36 a.m., a victim reported the theft of a black 1995 Chevy Blazer four-door. The vehicle was parked at the Sheraton Hotel at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Drive.

Rutherford

On June 24, at approximately 4:27 p.m., the Delta gas station at 759 Rutherford Avenue reported a white male in a white BMW drove in, pumped $49 worth of gas and drove off without paying for it.

On June 28, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Rutherford Senior Manor reported an unknown person stole $200 from an activities fund envelope at the location. There were no signs of forced entry.

CDS

Carlstadt

On June 26, detectives were called to backup the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant at 705 8th St. Upon arrival, they witnessed the suspect, 23-year-old Charles Chichizola exit the home and enter a parked vehicle in which they went to serve the warrant. Chichizola told police he would contact his drug dealer in Wood-Ridge so it could help his imminent sentencing. While on the call, police overheard him say "get rid of the green stuff" and they grabbed the phone and hung up. Police recognized the dialed number from a crossing guard list at headquarters and found that he had placed the call to his 53-year-old mother Maryann Chichizola at the residence they had just been at. A search of the home produced two sandwich bags, one small baggie and wrapped foil containing marijuana. Four muscle relaxers were also discovered. Charles was remanded to the Bergen County Jail on drug charges by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department while his mother was charged in Carlstadt with hindering apprehension and possession of CDS.

North Arlington

On June 29, at approximately 1:48 a.m., officer observed 20-year-old Saquib Perwaiz of Harrison exit Molly’s Bar at 26 Ridge Road and yell at passing vehicles. He entered a vehicle and the driver failed to turn on the headlights. Police stopped the vehicle and suspected Perwaiz was intoxicated and underage. His ID revealed him to be 20 years old and he was placed under arrest for underage consumption of alcohol. A search of him found a small bag of greenish-brownish vegetation believed to be marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana and released on summons.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On June 25, a complainant at American Paper and Supply Co., located at 10 Industrial Road, reported that the side of the building had been primed for painting two weeks prior and on that morning, he had found a purple heard and black writing spray painted on the wall.

Rutherford

On June 22, residents on Union Avenue reported a spate of graffiti incidents that occurred during the night. Unknown persons spray-painted "play ball" on the back of a stop sign, a bus stop, a mailbox, a newspaper box and a sidewalk. Other graffiti incidents also reportedly occurred during the night. Unknown persons spray-painted "KCK New Jersey 6-21-07" on a retaining wall at Lincoln School, others spray-painted "WCK" on another stop sign and retaining wall on Sylvan Street and on Ridge Road. The number "666" was also spray-painted on a mailbox at Montross and Fairview.

On June 24, at approximately 8:29 p.m., a complainant on St. Clair Highway reported an unknown person had smashed the rear driver’s side window of a 2001 Mitsubishi parked in the driveway. There were no signs of entry or theft.

On June 26, at approximately 11:19 p.m., an officer noticed unknown persons had kicked out a spindle from the gazebo railing in Lincoln Park.

DWI

East Rutherford

On June 23, at approximately 6:54 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 17 South and Union Avenue on the report of a man passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. Upon arrival, police found 26-year-old Vladimir Zevallos of Northwales, PA passed out in the left lane of Route 17 South. The vehicle was still in drive. Police woke Zevallos up and he did not know where he was. He appeared intoxicated and needed assistance leaving the vehicle. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to a responsible party on seven summonses.

Fraud

Carlstadt

On June 28, at approximately 11:07 a.m., a resident of the 400-block of First Street reported that an unauthorized individual had been using her debit card to make fraudulent purchases. The resident was notified earlier in the week that two pairs of men’s sneakers could not be delivered due to insufficient funds in her account. On June 25, a charge had appeared from DRJAYS.com in the amount of $235.93 and again the next day another fraudulent use of the debit showed up in the amount of $11.42 from eBay.com.

East Rutherford

On June 23, at approximately 7:39 a.m., a woman reported someone has been illicitly using her social security number during the last month. Someone used the number to obtain usage of a telephone for which the complainant was billed.
