Xanadu delays opening

Officials from Meadowlands Xanadu announced today that they are pushing the anticipated opening date of the 2.3 million square foot retail and entertainment center in East Rutherford from November to mid-summer 2009. Xanadu President Larry Siegel cited the need to better meet timetables of tenants as the cause to push the date back.
"It is increasingly clear that opening in mid-summer of 2009 will better meet the timetables of our tenants and ensure that families enjoy the fullest possible experience at Xanadu" said Siegel.
Siegel said the move date does not signal a delay in construction, but the date would be better suited to coincide with the opening of the NJ Transit rail link at the complex. In addition, from a marketing angle, the date would go hand in hand with the busy back to school shopping season.
"Construction continues at a rapid pace, all tenant commitments remain in effect and we are in active negotiations for a majority of the remaining space," he said.
Siegel also announced that Xanadu has recently signed new tenants The Cheesecake Factory, Guess and Zara that will complement already committed tenants such as H&M, Muvico theaters and Cabela's.
