Burglary/Theft

East Rutherford

On April 17, at approximately 4:08 p.m., a New York man reported the theft of approximately $1750 in electronics from his 1999 Mercedes E32 while it was parked in the lot of the Sheraton Hotel at 2 Meadowlands Plaza Drive.

 

On April 16, at approximately 4:12 p.m., a B.J.’s Wholesale club employee observed Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed-Bayomy, 50, of Rutherford, hiding DVDs on his person. When confronted, Mr. Ahmed-Bayomy dropped the items and attempted to flee. Upon arrest, Ahmed-Bayomy told police he was an Egyptian diplomat. A call to the United Nations proved that this was not the case.

 

On April 15, beginning at approximately 7:21 a.m., police received seven separate reports of thefts from motor vehicles parked on John Street, Hope Street, Morton Street and Carlton Avenue. Most reported only loose change missing, but one victim reported the theft of a GPS unit and satellite receiver valued at $650.

 

On April 15, at approximately 6:13 a.m., a High Street resident reported the theft of the wheels from her 2008 Honda. The perpetrator(s) had removed the wheels from the vehicle and placed them on milk crates.

 

On April 12, at approximately 3:05 p.m., police received a call from a Virginia man who reported that a laptop valued at $1,800 and a briefcase containing personal information were stolen from his rental vehicle while parked at the Homestead Village. A Newark man recovered the victim’s briefcase, which contained personal documents, at the intersection of Graffton and Broadway.

 

On April 12, at approximately 12:38 p.m., a Passaic man reported the theft of his white Ford Van from the lot at BJ’s Wholesale club.

Carlstadt

On April 16, at approximately 5:48 p.m., a man reported his 2008 Toyota Matrix was stolen from the parking lot of Granite Transformations on Paterson Plank Road while he was working. He parked it early in the morning and when he returned it was missing.

 

On April 16, at approximately 3:42 p.m., a man reported a ring, a bracelet and a watch were stolen from his home on Hackensack Street. He mentioned he had had people over to the house on Feb. 26 and had left the items out in a dish in the kitchen.

 

On April 16, at approximately 11:44 a.m., a complainant reported that someone stole 80 feet of pipe and a solar-powered unit from the Outwater Cemetery.

 

On April 15, at approximately 6:09 p.m., a complainant reported someone broke into her 1998 Honda Accord while it was parked on Commerce Street. The driver side window was smashed and a $200 windshield-mounted GPS device was missing.

 

On April 14, at approximately 11:15 a.m., an employee of Tribeca Oven Company at the intersection of Gotham Parkway and Veterans Boulevard reported the company has had an ongoing problem with someone stealing scrap metal from the dumpster. Earlier that day the complainant saw a white male near the dumpster driving a blue van and told him the scrap metal belonged to the company and that he was going to call the police. The man left by the time police arrived.

 

On April 10, at approximately 5:42 p.m., a man reported someone stole a pair of diamond earrings, two wedding bands, an engagement ring, a watch and four CDs from his 2007 Dodge Ram while it was parked on Broad Street. The stolen goods were estimated at $3,220.

North Arlington

On April 16, at approximately 5 a.m., police received a report of a stolen U-Haul van from North Arlington Auto Glass at 506 River Rd. The owner reported last seeing the vehicle at 10 p.m. on April 15, but believes it was stolen between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The vehicle was a 2007 Ford Econoline E250 van.

Rutherford

On April 17, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a complainant reported someone forcibly entered the garage attached to his two-family home on Washington Avenue by breaking the lock on the garage door. A paint machine was reported missing.

 

On April 15, at approximately 12:57 p.m., the owner of the Delta gas station on Park Avenue reported two customers had promised to return at a later date for $10 and $20 worth of gas on April 11 and April 3 respectively and never did. No complaints were filed.

 

On April 14, at approximately 8:37 a.m., a man reported his 2006 Chevrolet was broken into while it was parked on Union Avenue. Several CDs and fiber optic equipment totaling $7,150 were stolen.

 

On April 12, at approximately 8:18 p.m., a complainant reported two cell phones were stolen from Memorial Field after they had been placed in a baseball glove during the St. Mary’s Fair.

 

On April 12, at approximately 9:13 a.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his 2007 Honda by smashing the front passenger side window while it was parked on Vreeland Avenue. A $219 GPS device was stolen.

 

On April 12, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a complainant reported a cell phone was stolen from the St. Mary’s High School baseball team locker room at Tamblyn Field.

 

CDS

On April 14, at approximately 4:20 p.m., East Rutherford police arrested eighteen-year-old Michael Rosenfeld of East Rutherford, and twenty-six-year-old Luke Seigel of Franklin Lakes. Police had stopped Rosenfeld on Paterson Avenue for talking on a cell phone while driving. Rosenfeld, who was uncontrollably nervous, admitted he was carrying Percocet and a number of oxycodone pills for which he did not have a prescription. Seigel admitted to be carrying a clear glass vial containing liquid cocaine. Both were charged with possession of CDS. Rosenfeld was transferred to Bergen County Jail on $2,500 bail. Seigel was released on his own recognizance.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On April 15, at approximately 9:17 p.m., a woman reported finding a deep scratch in the middle of the front passenger side door of her 2007 Toyota. The scratch extended back to the rear passenger side door.

 

On April 14, at approximately 4:47 p.m., a complainant reported someone poured about a pound of gold-colored BBs into the engine of a vehicle parked at A to Z Truck Repair on Industrial Road. The engine had to be replaced at a cost of $14,000.

 

On April 12, at approximately 8:44 a.m., a complainant reported someone smashed the living room window of his house sometime overnight while he was away. A wooden log was found lying on the living room floor.

North Arlington

On April 18, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a victim reported damage to a 1998 Acura parked in the municipal lot on the Belleville Turnpike. The victim reported parking the vehicle at 12:30 a.m. and, upon returning at 1:30 a.m., noticed the driver side door had been kicked and keyed and all four tires had been slashed.

Rutherford

On April 14, at approximately 8:14 p.m., a complainant reported finding several deep scratches on the driver side door of her 2008 Mazda. The marks were made sometime between April 5 and April 12 while it was parked on Hastings Avenue.

 

On April 14, at approximately 8:16 a.m., police discovered red and black graffiti on the first and second floors of the Kip Garage.

 

On April 14, at approximately 1:35 p.m., a complainant reported someone shot yellow paintballs at her 1996 Volkswagen and broke the driver side taillight in the process.

 

On April 12, at approximately 7:09 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime overnight someone threw a salmon-colored decorative patio block through the windshield of his 1996 Acura while it was parked at the corner of East Passaic Avenue and Sylvan Street. Another complainant reported at about the same time that someone had damaged the left rear door of his 2004 Mazda by throwing another salmon-colored patio block with scalloped fringing.

DWI

North Arlington

On April 12, at approximately 3:17 a.m., officers on patrol observed a 1994 Mercury traveling on River Road at Eagle Street without its headlights on. Upon speaking to the driver, police noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 39-year-old Carlos Tabares of Belleville for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded, he was processed and released to a responsible party.

 

On April 14, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle traveling on the Belleville Turnpike at Garden Terrace without a front license plate. Upon speaking to the driver, police noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage. After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 22-year-old Jennifer Luberto of Kinnelon for driving under the influence. She was processed and released to a responsible party.

Rutherford

On April 13, at approximately 3:43 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road at the intersection of Jackson and Union avenues. Police arrived and spoke with the driver, 25-year-old Dawid Bilski of Garfield. Officers detected the odor of alcohol on Bilski’s breath. He failed to pass a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was issued summonses for DWI and refusal to take a breathalyzer test.

Carlstadt

On April 13, at approximately 2:34 p.m., a woman reported she purchased a Gucci handbag over eBay for $86.40. When she received the bag she discovered it was a fake.

Rutherford

On April 17, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a woman on Carmita Avenue reported someone attempted to use her personal information to open a credit card account at Target.

 

On April 12, at approximately 9:35 a.m., a complainant on Clark Court reported someone tried to purchase an iPod online using the victim’s debit card. The iPod was shipped to an address in Ozone Park, New York.
