Lyndhurst kept up the pressure in the BCSL National race with a 7-5 victory over Weehawken on Saturday.
The Golden Bears upped its record to 5-1 with the league win.
Tommy Farrell got the victory for Lyndhurst to raise his record to 2-0 on the mound. Danny Lisanti and Miguel Molina had a pair of RBI as the Golden Bears withstood an Indians comeback.
It is looking like a crowded field for the National division crowd with the likes of Lyndhurst, St. Mary’s, Becton, Wallington, Hasbrouck Heights and even Wood-Ridge all possibly ending on top of the division.
One team that is not expected to be on top, but is improving is North Arlington. The Vikings played run-for-run with the hottest team in the National, Wallington, on Friday, but North Arlington just fell short.
The Vikings led 10-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it all fell apart in the final two innings. The Panthers scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game and the momentum was against North Arlington. Frank Gangi and Luigi Gomez cracked home runs for the Vikings. On the day Gomez had four RBI while Bruno Janota and Tyler Fasano had a pair of RBI each. North Arlington pitcher Ryan Kenney took the loss as the Vikings fell to 2-3.
Queen of Peace won its second game of the season as they nipped Ft. Lee on the road, 3-2, in a BCSL American contest. Jared Skinner got his first win of 2008 on the mound. The Golden Griffins offense scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and Queen of Peace held on in the end. Anthony Re had a pair of RBI while DJ Dimler had an RBI of his own.
Rutherford’s comeback at home on Friday fell short against rival, River Dell, in a BCSL American game. The Bulldogs were down 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when they came from behind. But a little too late as Rutherford lost 5-4. Bulldogs pitcher Jim McCann took the loss. Frank Isola, Pat Saracino, Zach Loys and Kyle McAuley had an RBI each for Rutherford. The Bulldogs were 3-2 as of the end of last week.
St. Mary’s won a quality contest in the BCSL National on Friday with a 11-8 victory over Secaucus. The Gaels came from behind with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. St. Mary’s was down 8-7 before the fifth inning. Bill Rehbein had three RBI to lead the Gaels while Mike Rizzo and Anthony Luberto contributed a pair of RBI in the divisional victory.
Becton pitcher Matt Germann fired a no-hitter on Friday on the road at Harrison. The win raised the Wildcats record to 5-0 after the 11-0 victory in the National contest. Jeremy Liebeck led the offense with three RBI while Anthony Hediger contributed a pair of RBI for the cause.
