Escaped snake found in apartment

(by Daniel O'Keefe - April 02, 2008)

A local plumber was more than a little taken aback last week when what he thought was a soft, rotted pipe started moving under his hand. It turned out the pipe was a several foot-long snake that had coiled its way around the plumbing in an apartment at 270 Union Avenue. Officer Russell Snyder of the Rutherford Police was called to the building and brought the snake back to the station in a pillowcase, according to Detective Sean Farrell.

TYCO Animal Control was called and took custody of the creature. It turned out the snake belonged to another resident of the building—it had managed to get loose from his apartment and work its ways into the walls. The snake’s owner is planning on giving the snake to a friend for safe-keeping, according to Farrell, now that the landlord no longer wants him to keep it in the building.
