Burglary/Theft

East Rutherford

On March 21, at approximately 2:29 p.m., Kelly Kautz, 25, of East Rutherford reported a burglary from her parents’ home. Ms. Kautz told police that two women she identified as Joan and Kelly had visited the home and that Ms. Kautz noticed several items missing after they left. Kautz also admitted to police that she was a heroin user, and said she knew Joan and Kelly through their mutual drug use. Police noticed a bulge in Kautz’s rear pants pocket and effected a search. They discovered a personal gaming system that was among the items reported missing, along with a crack pipe and a straw used for ingesting heroin. Kautz was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and theft, after admitting that she stole the items herself to support her drug habit, pawning them at Cash Converters in Saddle Brook.

On March 19, at approximately 11:46 a.m., a Maryland man reported his black 2006 Ford work truck stolen from a lot at 10 Murray Hill Pkwy. The truck contained the man’s cell phone, two ladders, and sundry painting equipment. The vehicle was later recovered by police in Metuchen.

On March 14, at approximately 8:33 p.m., a Bayonne man reported a theft from his gray 2005 Chevrolet, while it was parked in the BJ’s Wholesale Club lot on Route 17 North. Missing was the man’s IBM laptop, two 10-inch speakers, an amplifier and a capacitor.

Carlstadt

On March 17, at approximately 8:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to Stop & Shop, located at 675 Paterson Ave., for the report of shoplifting. Upon arrival, a manager reported that an employee witnessed a white male wearing a black jacket with mushroom haircut slip a package of sliced turkey breast into his sleeve. When confronted, he fled toward Walgreens and supermarket staff gave up pursuit. Soon after, East Rutherford notified they had a male fitting the description pulled over. The driver, 43-year-old Scott McCrickard of Clifton, was asked about the incident and he admitted to stealing the turkey and cheese, all told valued collaboratively at $34.20. He was charged with shoplifting and given a new court date for an outstanding warrant out of wood-Ridge.

On March 13, at approximately 2:12 p.m., a manager at Auto-Chlor Systems, located at 685 Gotham Pkwy., reported that a security guard at Roadway Express witnessed one of the business’ employees putting two white boxes from the business into the trunk of his car. When confronted, the employee refused to open his trunk and promptly punched out before the end of his shift. The manager told police the issue would attempted to be resolved internally through human resources.

Rutherford

On March 23, at approximately 9:24 a.m., a complainant reported that someone broke into his 2003 Mercedes Benz while it was parked on Orient Way sometime between March 22 and the time of the report. The passenger’s side window was smashed and a $400 GPS unit was reported missing.

On March 22, at approximately 7:37 a.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his 2007 Ford while it was parked on Courrier Place sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. that day. The passenger’s side window was broken and a GPS unit was reported missing.

On March 21, at approximately 3:18 p.m., a complainant reported that sometime between March 9 and the day of the report someone stole four 24-inch chrome tire rims from the basement common area at 20 Meadow Road.

On March 19, at approximately 11:25 a.m., a complainant reported that someone broke into his 2006 Ford sometime between 11:10 and 11:25 a.m. while it was parked on West Park Place. The front passenger’s side window was smashed and a $700 GPS unit was reported missing.

On March 19, at approximately 11:12 a.m., a complainant reported that someone broke into his 2001 Honda while it was parked on Home Avenue sometime between March 18 and the time of the report. The front passenger’s side window was smashed and a GPS unit was reported missing.

On March 18, at approximately 11:04 p.m., a complainant reported that someone broke into his 2005 Ford sometime between 7 and 10:15 p.m. while it was parked on West Newell Avenue. The driver’s side window was smashed and a $300 GPS unit was reported missing.

On March 18, at approximately 10:55 p.m., a complainant reported that someone broke into two of his cars while they were parked on Home Avenue. Both had their driver’s side windows smashed and a $300 GPS unit was stolen from each.

On March 16, at approximately 2 a.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his 2001 GMC SUV while it was parked at 801 Rutherford Ave. The driver’s side door lock was punctured and a $700 GPS unit was stolen.

Criminal Mischief

Carlstadt

On March 14, at approximately 8:45 a.m., an employee at Williams Gas, located at 718 Paterson Plank Road, told police that there had been damage inflicted upon a fence on the corporation’s northernmost part of their property. The complainant told police they have had an ongoing problem with individuals driving all-terrain vehicles on the property.

Rutherford

On March 21, at approximately 6:04 p.m., two juveniles, one 14 and one 15, were taken into custody for throwing rocks at the Union School. One of the rocks broke a window. The matter was forwarded to Rutherford’s juvenile detective pending charges. They were released to their parents.

CdS

East Rutherford

On March 16, at approximately 11:10 p.m., an officer on patrol stopped a silver 2004 Acura after it made an illegal left hand turn onto Paterson Avenue. The officer noticed that the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Jonathan Izaguirre of Carlstadt, smelled strongly of burnt marijuana. Izaguirre consented to a search of the vehicle, during which time, eleven individually wrapped plastic bags of what appeared to be marijuana were discovered. A personal search of Mr. Izaguirre yielded an additional bag of marijuana and $661 in cash. Izaguirre was arrested for possession with intent to distribute, operating a motor vehicle while possessing CDS, driving while suspended, and prohibited left turn. Bail was set at $5,000.

Rutherford

On March 24, at approximately 12:22 a.m., an officer on patrol detected the smell of burnt marijuana emanating from a vehicle heading south on Park Avenue. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Ridge Road and East Passaic Avenue, whereupon he detected the smell again. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The car contained two adults and one juvenile. The adults, 18-year-old Tomilynn Gentle of East Rutherford and 18-year-old Stephanie Bishop of Carlstadt, were charged with CDS possession and possession of CDS paraphernalia. A search of the juvenile revealed an additional bag of marijuana. She was issued summonses for CDS possession and CDS paraphernalia and released to her parents.

DWI

East Rutherford

On March 21, at approximately 2:01 a.m., officers responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at Bobbink Terrace. One of the vehicles, which had fled the scene, was later linked to Ronald Wurth, 18, of East Rutherford. Police caught up with Wurth at his home, where Wurth admitted to having consumed several beers that evening. Wurth was arrested for underage DWI. Breathalyzer tests later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .17%.

On March 17, between approximately 11:25 p.m., and 12:49 a.m., East Rutherford police charged three individuals at a DWI checkpoint on Paterson Avenue. Matthew Keenan, 29. of Wallington, was charged after failing field sobriety tests. A pair of Breathalyzer tests later revealed Keenan’s blood alcohol concentration was .19%. Justin Taylor Blase, 34, of Carlstadt, was stopped after initially driving through the DWI checkpoint. Blase smelled of alcohol and had difficulty remaining alert. After failing field sobriety tests, Blase was arrested. At the station Blase became verbally abusive and declined to submit to a Breathalyzer exam. Anibal Guini, 46, of Belleville, was tested after admitting to having consumed 10 beers during the course of the day. Guini failed several field sobriety tests, and a pair of Breathalyzers revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .09%.

On March 15, at approximately 11:48 p.m., a patrol officer stopped Christine Cassano, 29, of East Rutherford, after she made a left turn on red at Hackensack Street. On interacting with Cassano, the officer detected the odor of alcohol and watery, bloodshot eyes. When Cassano admitted to having consumed two drinks that evening, the officer effected field sobriety tests, all of which she failed. Cassano was placed under arrest for DWI. A Breathalyzer test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .17%, more than twice the legal limit.

On March 14, at approximately 10:43 p.m., a patrol officer stopped Michael Doyle, 21, of Woodbridge, after he drove his white Dodge Durango into oncoming traffic to pass another vehicle. During the stop, the officer detected the strong odor of alcohol on Doyle’s breath and administered field sobriety tests, all of which Doyle failed. Doyle was issued a summons for DWI.

Miscellaneous

Rutherford

On March 23, at approximately 2:07 p.m., an off-duty police officer observed three individuals trespassing in a fenced off backyard on Washington Avenue. Police responded and spoke with the individuals, 19-year-old Ronald Mejia of Rutherford, 19-year-old Oswlad Martinez of Rutherford and a 17-year old Carlstadt juvenile, at the corner of Union and Darwin Avenues. Mejia was charged with trespassing. Martinez was found to have a $996 Rutherford warrant and was transported to the Bergen County Jail. The juvenile was released without charges.

Warrants

Carlstadt

On March 19, at approximately 12:36 a.m., police stopped an Audi after witnessing it driving south on Washington Avenue with a light out. Upon running a check on the driver, 24-year-old Szymon Kaczmarek of Jersey City, it was revealed that he had to outstanding warrants out of Jersey City, one for $100 and the other for $52. Kaczmarek was able to post bail and was released on a summons for maintenance of lamps.

On March 18, at approximately 4:29 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Hoboken Road after witnessing the driver talking on a cell phone, now a primary offense statewide. After running a check on 31-year-old Aron Jones of Rutherford, it was revealed that he had an outstanding failure to appear warrant out of Rutherford. Jones was able to post bail and was issued a summons for cell phone use.
