Rutherford police seize illegal weapons cache

The Rutherford Police Department and the New Jersey State Police Street Gang Unit North arrested Joseph Leone of Rutherford last Friday after executing a search warrant of his Hastings Avenue residence and seizing a cache of at least 35 weapons. Among the weapons seized by police were several handguns, an AK-47 and two Russian-made SKS assault weapons. The New Jersey State Police T.E.A.M.S. Unit and the State Police Canine Unit assisted in the arrest as well. Leone was charged with possessing and manufacturing assault weapons and machine guns and was transferred to the Bergen County Jail. Bail was set at $50,000 with no 10 percent option.
