Burglary Theft
East Rutherford
On March 8, at approximately 8:01 a.m., an Ohio man reported that a $400 GPS unit and four gas-powered generators totaling $1,200 were stolen from his white 2005 GMC truck while it was parked in the Homestead Village at 300 Route 3 East. At approximately 9:09 a.m., a Georgia woman filed a separate report from the Homestead Village, to the affect that the driver’s side window on her rented 2008 Chevy Cobalt had been smashed and a $400 GPS unit along with a $100 mp3 player had been stolen. On March 12, at approximately 3:43 p.m., a third report of a stolen GPS unit valued at $600 was filed by a Pennsylvania man parked at the Homestead.
On March 12, at approximately 10:49 a.m., police responded to a complaint from an Elizabeth man parked in front of R&S Strauss at 540 Paterson Ave. The man reported that two full acetylene tanks were stolen from the back of his gray 1986 Toyota truck in the minutes between 10:10 and 10:20 a.m. The victim noticed only one other vehicle, a black Honda with a black male driver, in the lot at the time of the theft.
Carlstadt
On March 10, at approximately 11:12 a.m. and then again at 12:30 p.m., two separate complainants at a business at 463 Barell Ave. reported the thefts of laptops from their offices. The first complainant reported the theft of an HP 6000 series valued at $1,299 and the other reported the theft of a Sony Vaio valued at $1,400.
On March 10, at approximately 6:42 a.m., a resident of the 300-block of Marsan Drive responded to headquarters to report the theft of his bike from his home’s backyard. The bike was valued at $100.
On March 7, at approximately 2:25 p.m., a complainant reported that she had placed her clothes in a dryer at Fresh Meadow Laundromat, located at 440 Hackensack St. and upon returning, they were missing. The complainant reported the theft of two pair of jeans, three tee shits, six Starbucks aprons and various underwear and socks.
Rutherford
On March 13, at approximately 4:58 p.m., a complainant reported someone broke into his mobile home by breaking through the driver’s side window while it was parked in the Renaissance Hotel parking lot sometime between 11 a.m. and the time of the report. Two laptop computers and their cases, a digital camera and a video camera together valued at a total of $6,250 were reported stolen.
On March 13, at approximately 3:28 p.m., a complainant reported a postal priority package was stolen from his mailbox. Thirteen dollars worth in Star Wars figurines were reported stolen.
On March 12, at approximately 4:39 p.m., a complainant reported someone entered his unlocked car while it was parked on Grand Avenue and stole $25 in loose change.
On March 12, at approximately 4:26 p.m., a complainant reported someone entered his unlocked car while it was parked on Grand Avenue and stole a cell phone, a charger and $5 in quarters for a total value of $180.
On March 12, at approximately 10:21 a.m., the DPW reported someone stole the meter head off a parking meter at the corner of Orient Way and Spring Dell.
On March 10, at approximately 6 p.m., complainants at Jersey Tractor Trailer Training on Route 17 North reported 500 gallons of fuel was siphoned out of two tractor trailers sometime between March 9 and March 10. One of the nearby light poles was broken as well, evidently to help hide the perpetrators during the act. A similar theft occurred in December in Rutherford and recently in Wallington and Carlstadt.
On March 9, at approximately 12:51 p.m., a woman reported she paid for $40 worth of gas at the Delta station on Union Avenue. After she left the station she noticed the fuel gauge of her car didn’t reflect the amount. She stopped at another station and had the car filled with $70 worth of gas. She returned to the Delta station and received her $40 back. The matter was reported to the Bergen County Division of Weights and Measures and the Delta station was issued a Title 56 violation for failure to maintain and a penalty ranging from $250 to $500.
North Arlington
On March 11, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a resident reported a burglary to a home on Stover Avenue off of Gold Street. The resident reported leaving the home at 11 a.m. and upon returning at 3 p.m., saw the interior rear door had been forced open and both bedrooms had been ransacked. The unknown actors stole $500 in silverware, $10,000 in U.S. government bonds and a gold watch, gold chain and gold bracelet, valued at $2,000.
On March 11, at approximately 8:19 p.m., a victim reported a theft from a 2004 Saturn parked on Gold Street off of Albert Street. The victim parked the vehicle between 6 and 7 p.m. and noticed a green backpack, containing a Macintosh laptop computer valued at $1,500, an Apple iPod valued at $280 and a binder containing $1,500 worth of music compact discs, was stolen from the car.

East Rutherford
On March 7, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the owner of a business at 98 Boiling Springs Ave. reported graffiti on the newly surfaced Paterson Avenue side of his building.
Rutherford
On March 8, at approximately 10:26 a.m., a complainant reported someone tagged the side of a house and two cars on Carneer Avenue with spray-paint. "FLK TIRE" was spray-painted on the side of the house and "FLTK" was spray-painted on the cars.
Fraud
East Rutherford
On March 13, at approximately 7:57 p.m., police recovered a counterfeit $100 bill from a worker at BJ’s Wholesale Club on Route 17 North. The bill was processed and forwarded to the United States Secret Service.
Carlstadt
On March 8, at approximately 4:56 p.m., a resident on the 500-block of Jefferson Street responded to headquarters to report an attempted fraud. The complainant told police that he had been contacted on his cell phone by a woman alleging that she was a representative of Commerce Bank. She asked for his account number so she could verify why $389 in fraudulent charges had been charged to his account and when he refused, she hung up. After calling Commerce Bank, real representatives there verified no fraudulent charges.
Warrants
East Rutherford
On March 13, at approximately 7:57 p.m., East Rutherford police performed a random MDC check on a blue 1994 Ford traveling on Route 3 West. Police discovered that the vehicle’s license plates were not on file. Upon a motor vehicle stop, they also discovered that the driver, 49-year-old Tahsin Dh-Zayed of Paterson, was unlicensed and had outstanding warrants in Paterson, Toms River, and Weehawken. Mr. Dh-Zayed was arrested and custody was transferred to the Port Authority Police Department.
