Teen linked to thousands in damage

(by Corey Klein - March 12, 2008)

In one night, a North Arlington man allegedly caused thousands of dollars to property on the south end of town. Police charged 19-year-old Ciaran Doyle of North Arlington with nine counts of criminal mischief after tracing a trail of carnage around the area.

On March 2, at approximately 1:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to Argyle Place near the Belleville Turnpike on a report of a man with short blonde hair wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans jumping on a 2002 Chevy.

At the location, officers observed a lamppost had been knocked over and broken. A resident in the area of Exton Avenue and Argyle Place observed Doyle break the light fixture. Police went to Doyle’s residence and Doyle answered the door. Police said he appeared to be intoxicated and had cuts on his forearm and both palms. He was arrested for multiple acts of criminal mischief.

At Chestnut Street and the Belleville Turnpike, a victim reported damage to a fence and retaining wall. Doyle allegedly dismantled the cement wall and ripped down the fence on the property. At 29 Chestnut St., police observed damage to a 2002 Volkswagen Golf. Doyle allegedly damaged the passenger’s side mirror on the car and threw the fence he ripped down from the residence at the hood and windshield, causing further damage to the vehicle. Doyle also allegedly kicked the passenger’s side rear quarter panel of a 1993 Lexus ES belonging to the same victim at the household.

At Exton Avenue and Chestnut Street, officers observed damage to the side mirrors of a 1995 Eagle Vision and a 2001 Chevy Malibu.

On Rutherford Place off of the Belleville Turnpike, a victim reported damage to a 1990 Dodge. Doyle allegedly threw a cinder block from the fence he damaged earlier onto the hood of the car. Doyle allegedly threw another cinder block on a 2005 Subaru. The cinder block smashed the front windshield and put dents and scratches onto the hood of the car and the front left quarter panel. Lastly, Doyle allegedly kicked the driver’s side front and rear doors of a 2004 Mazda in the area.

Doyle was charged with causing $650 in damage for ripping the lamppost out of the ground, destroying the fence and damaging eight vehicles. Police connected the other crimes by tracking Doyle’s sneaker prints.

After being arrested, police searched Doyle and found a fictitious Maine driver’s license, which would have made Doyle 21 years old.

After processing, the judge set Doyle’s bail at $10,000 with a 10 percent option. He was released after posting $1,000 cash bail.
